Coilovers fitted but ABS light is on
Hey guys,
Last week I got my coilovers fitted (H&R) by a mate at a workshop in Northside Brisbane.
The car sits perfect and driveability is fine (a bit of clunk, but I guess that's because its wound down nearly all the way).
However, the ABS, Traction control, and Tyre pressure light are now all on, and there is a bit of a soft grinding noise coming from the front.
I took it to VW and they told me that the front left ABS Sensor loom wiring is ripped on the inside. They quoted me $480 including labour to fix this.
What I am curious to know is, do you think that this could be fixed under warranty, or would they not want to know of it as the suspension has been changed..?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Aleks

The wiring may have been damaged during or due to the coilover install. I dont like your chances to be honest. If it hasnt been mounted back on properly then there may have been too much tension put on the loom during the travel of the suspension.

Thanks, Tim. That's what I thought too.
Another question is, would the ABS and TC lights and the non-function of ABS create any noise during driving? It's like a soft grinding noise coming from the front.
When I turn the car on at 1st, I need to exceed about 20km/h for the TC and tyre pressue lights to come on (ABS stays on all the time), and then the noise starts.

unlikely on the warrantee claim and coilovers arent really designed to be fully wound down, if you wanted to go lowlow you should have purchased their ultra low series? . . .

Any VW mechanic would spot the coilovers and I reckon they wouldn't go with the claim.
Probably easier to get your mate to repair the wiring and then have the codes cleared.

What car is it and where is the loom damaged?
The ABS loom that goes to the wheel is usually pretty modular. You may just be able to unplug it and replace that part of the loom with one from a wreck.

I do not know where the loom is damaged. All VW told me is that it has broken wiring on the inside.
It's on a 07 GTi.
Anyone know how involved it is to change this?
