17x8 with 195/40 how much stretch.

Hey knowledgable people. Roughly how much stretch would this arrangement give? A little? A lot? Cheers.

3 examples I could find. Remember its different from tyre brand to tyre brand.

    about that much ^^
to give you a idea without physically fitting up a tyre. Approx 195mm at the tread on to a 8" wheel (which is actually ~8.75-9" over all) is ~228.6mm.

so 33.6mm difference, half of that is about 16-17mm each side from the outside of the wheel to the top of the tyre.
Some tyres will stretch differently to others. lots factors like actual width, sidewall stiffness and so on

Thanks guys. Looks a bit much for my liking. Might have to go 205 and prey they don't scrub.

Really depends on the tyre brand and model. This was 195/40 Pirelli Pzero Nero on 17x8 that I had for my Mk3 ages ago:

And more recently the same specs but Kumho KU31 for the front tri-spokes on my A3:

And then I had 215/40 Goodyear F1 Eagles on 17x8:

If you go for 205/40 or wider and want to avoid as much rubbing as possible, just avoid Yokohamas and Potenzas as they tend to have thicker sidewalls.

That Falken stretch is a worry - I would not drive (hard) like that!
    The Pirelli looks fine however

Most tyre manufactures would say 215mm is the minimum for an 8" rim
