I'd actually say that the white with roof is probably the result of the factory SKU setup. More than likely the market for white passat's in Aus is small, and the majority that do get them probably get a sun roof optioned too. Therefore it would be smart in terms of planning costs to allocate part of the production of white with roof only to Aus. More margin and simpler ops process. This is just me guessing however knowing similar setups in my work.
I'm not making any progress on this with my friendly VW dealer...
Realizing that it will be impossible to obtain a white one without the sunroof, I have asked for an offset in cost against the sunroof to the tune of $1000, basically the cost of metallic paint. I think this is a fair arrangement, they don't....yet.
I'll keep you posted...
Go to another dealer, tell them the price you're willing to pay for the car you want with the spec you want, and if they want you to sign there and then they have to supply at that price... I once did that on a Holden I bought, and after 2 hours of clogging up their floor they'd dropped $9000 on a $48,000 car..
My advice is... if you're not happy with the price then don't sign for it.
Seriously, the dealer has you over the barrel anyway. $1k you think you're saving here, is quickly gotten back somewhere else. Don't argue specific things like that since they will then say OK you can have that.... and when you ask for your other options and a discount... they'll say... 'we've done the discount' and there you are.
Look at the bottom line, and bargain the driveaway price. Just my advice.
