Running in a new Mechatronics unit

I've just had my mechatronics unit replaced which makes my TDI 103 drive like a different car. Thanks to Frank at Barloworld in Mascot, NSW, nice work.

The service guys said that it might still act a bit funny for the next 2-300Km. as it adjusts to my driving style, but to just drive normally during this time.

Does anyone know if this is true and if so should I be careful at all or drive in a particular way? I really don't want to live with a borked unit again and I'd like to make sure the new one is not mistreated but also does not get into bad habits while it adapts itself.

I'm picking up my MY07 Passat V6 today. I hope mine doesn't have such issues with the DSG. (I do get 3 year extended warranty)

I'm just curious, do you think the new mechatronic unit is just "better" than the original ones?
As in, maybe they have improved the original design/spec recently and that's the reason why everyone says it drives like a whole new car when it's replaced?

They're not different. Just new and work properly. No need to "run in" either. Just drive your car!

Yes, if by better you mean it has solenoids that all work.
No, if by better you mean they have upgraded the design.

Reset the mechatronics, tell the owner you replaced the mechatronic and they will say the same thing. It's the same when they disconnect the battery at service, you'll have people saying that dealer must have flashed the ECU as the car drives like it did when new.

The revised unit is better, but also drives differently.

I had mine replace 2.5 weeks ago. It lasted only 6 days and losts its settings.
It was reset and lasted less than 24 hours, So now driving a GTI as a loan car.

But seriously considering giving the car back and taking the GTI instead. Even if the gas mileage is not as great as the TDI by a whole 1-1.5L/100km's.

But yes the unit just works no drive in period as such.

I also noticed the new unit managed 5 gear at 50km/h as apose to the old unit which would only get 5th gear around 67 km/h+

You do realise that the gearbox is adaptive and learns your driving style and this takes time to do?

It doesn't lose it's settings or drive differently but it instead starts with a pre programmed set of values which are adapted over time to suit your driving style.

NO!!! The replacement units are not different other than they are new and WORK PROPERLY. They will take a while to learn your driving style though.

I'd be interested too, since my mechatronics unit was replaced about 12 months ago. In the last 2-3 months the gearbox has gone as rough as guts again, including a few things it never did before, like rough shifting and clunking when stopping.

Will see what's said when the 60,000km service is done in about 10 days.
