As far as I know, they're pretty much the same engine at heart. The only likely differences being software in the ECU, and some other miscillaneous things.

Thanks for the info,
Contacting VW to get the info should work in theory but unfortunately dealers dont always supply correct info to VW, for example when they overfilled the engine on my car with oil and it started leaking in few places they never mentioned in a report that it was caused by overfill ,instead they made up some crap so that it gets covered by VW warranty and dealer actually told me that it was their fault.
It's your call at the end of the day.
125 GT GOLF (engine code ???) AND PASSAT 125 KW (engine code CBB) THEY DONT USE SAME ENGINES AT ALL ,maybe same turbos and
of course 125 kw is the same nothing else...passat is comon rail and I think golf GT is not...corect me if Im wrong.
My 2007 103kw also few times had fault code injector.1or2.. for now I just delete them and it still goes only 33oookms on clock.. but there is a bit more smoke under heavy throtle...
cheers
Oli
Fraid not Oli, in my comprehensive erwin technical manuals produced by VW, the BMN engine in the GT TDI is identical to the 125kw TDI in the Passat except for a balancer shart in the PD series prior to MK6. I can't comment when the Passat actually wnet common rail, but for the GT's it was in the MK6 GTD. Now that they are both common rail, the rules have changed, but from my investigations it would appear any of the 125kw TDI PD engines may have suspect injectors. I've asked around and there have been GT TDI's fail too, so I'm thinking ahead for the worst and investigating aftermarket injectors, just in case! Be good to know at what month VW decided to switch to the improved injectors in the MK5's ( if at all! )
MK5 TDI GTs were PD (unit injection), as were Passats until MY10, from memory.
This also affects 103kw engines, too.
Fwiw. I am seeing a 10% reduction in my fuel usage post injector replacement !
I'll monitor a little longer.
Richdave, I thought mine improved too... But the pump/km figures haven't really changed after 3 months... The main difference is that previously the MFD was optimistic by about 0.2l/100km, now it's about 0.5-0.6l/100km....
Hi all, just new on this forum but thought I'd share that my MY 2008 125TDI Wagon also stopped as per same symptoms described here. That was 14 or 15 October 2010. Parts were alleged to be coming from Germany and I got the car back after a week. No details of what exactly was done other than that they had replaced injectors which were apparently most expensive parts (did not tell me how much though). Having done 54000 k's at the time, I am not impressed. Complained to VW Aust but never heard back. Warranty runs out in April this year. My questions; is there a warranty on the replaced injectors and should I pay for extended warranty which has been quoted at 3500 and would that warranty cover the injectors? All in all a very disappointing experience with my first european car, my VW dealer and VW Australia....
