How to set the memory seat

I have been trying to set the memory seat on my R36, followed the instructions but don't seem to be able to get it to work. I never got the "gong" as indicated in the manual. Can anyone shed some light on how I can get it to work?

I owned other cars with electric memory seats and have got them to my setting so its not like I am new to this, but the VW controls do seem a little more cumbersome.

    Seats

Hi there. From memory (no pun intended - I am still in the office)... here we go.

Ensure that the ignition is on, or the engine running.

Get the seat the way you want it.

Press the SET button and hold for about 2 seconds (rule of thumb). No sound is heard at this point.

Then press the setting you want to store, and HOLD THIS until the beep is heard. Release after the confirmation beep is heard. Then the setting is saved.

You can make fine adjustments on the run as well if you like, by tweeking the seat, and then running through exactly the same as above.

Remember to get your mirrors set too. I think there is another step to lock the mirrors into the seat settings.

    See how you go.

    From my memory...

Put the ignition in the dash lights on position (but dont turn the car on).
Set up your seat and mirrors, and then press the set button for 1 second.
Press and hold one of the numbers down till you hear the gong/ding.
Take the key out of the ignition, and after 3 seconds press the unlock button.

That last setting will mate up the seat memory to you key.

Yes, pretty sure you are correct Cro re matching to the remote key.

Note that you can update and store positions when the vehicle is running (done it myself when I was getting it right) and moving down the road...

If you sit in the car and follow the manual, it does work. Just need 10 minutes of uninterrupted concentration.

    very easy.

    1) Put the ignition on but dont turn on the engine and make sure the gear is in "Park" position
    2) adjust your seat and mirror to your desired position
    3) Press the set button then number (eg. "1") until you hear the "gong"
    4) Put gear to "Reverse"
    5) adjust your passenger side mirror so that you can see the kerb. (kerb function).
    6) after that hold the number "1" again until you hear the "gong"
    7) put the gear to "P"
take the key out and press "unlock" to unlock the car using the remote
    9) put the key back then press the number "1" again until you hear the gong
    10) Now the seat/mirror should be programmed to the key.
    11) Repeat the above steps for your second key for alternative seat setting.

Now when you unlock the car with key 1, the seat/mirror setting will automatically adjust to setting no.1 whereas if you unlock the car with key 2, the setting will change to setting no.2 automatically. Also when you put on reverse, the passenger side mirror will dip to see the kerb (only if you have the mirror button point to your left hand side mirror, if you have the button point to middle or RHS mirror, the mirror wont dip) Hope this help.

My fiancee and I are very different in size. Since we both drive the car I spent some time tonight trying to program my settings to my key. The instructions posted previously in this thread (steps 8-10) turned out not to work for me. Don't know if that is because we've got different models/MY?

This is what I did to link my settings to a key (when the seat and mirrors have already been set):
    1) Start engine
    2) Press Set and then the number key
    3) Stop engine and take the key out
    4) Press unlock button on remote key AFTER 3 but WITHIN 10 seconds. You will hear a gong to indicate that the setting is now programmed to the key.
NB. The doors need to be closed when you perform step 5.
