    2017 VW Tiguan Stereo Upgrade

Hi guys, I have a 2017 VW Tiguan 162 TSI. Its currently at the panel beaters and I've been given a loan car which is a 2023 Tiguan Allspace. I noticed this tiggy has wireless Android Auto and the newer stereo system.
Does anyone know if its possible to upgrade the 2017 stereo to the newer one with perhaps a fascia kit?

    Cheers!

There are plenty of wireless Carplay/Android auto adapters on the market. Just avoid the cheap ebay Chinese garbage. You will be paying $150+ for something decent. I had this one in my 2015 Golf GTI and it was great - took about 20 seconds to connect and worked flawlessly. CarPlay Wireless USB Adapter Dongle For Factory Fitted Vehicles - VW Central - Brands

This Quadlock wireless adapter are supposed to be pretty decent also, and well priced Car - Wireless CarPlay Adaptor - Quad Lock(R) Australia - Official Store

If you want to look into upgrading the entire head unit then you will need to confirm what you have currently. Depending on the spec of your car you will either have a 6.5" touchscreen with buttons on either side, or a 8" touchscreen with no additional buttons. If you have the former then you could look at upgrading (how deep are your pockets???), but if you have the latter then that is as good as it gets.

Smaller screen in lower spec models:

Larger screen in higher spec models:

Hey thanks for all that info! Yeah i have to lower spec screen, I've heard its exxy bit you can also take the head units from wrecked vehicles which does make it a bit cheaper!

Yep, upgrading from the lower-spec 6.5” screen is possible, but it’s not cheap. You’d need the newer MIB2.5 or MIB3 unit, plus a compatible screen, wiring adapters, and potentially component protection removal from a dealer. Wreckers are a good source, but ensure it’s properly coded or it won’t work fully.

If you’re mainly after wireless Android Auto, a good adapter might be the easier route. Some aftermarket head units also support it and can fit with a fascia kit, but factory integration is always cleaner. If you do go the OEM upgrade route, check VAG-specific shops for proper coding
