    Replace O2 sensor

    Hi,

Volkswagen is trying to charge me $650 to replace a O2 sensor on my 2017 tiguan.

I was wondering if I could replace it myself or somewhere else for much cheaper.
Or do we need to have access to their software thing?

    Thanks

That is a lot of money.
If you have the tools to DIY, pull it out check the part number, go online wait for postman, put in the new one.
I reckon you could have one for less than $200 easy.

Do you know if it is pre or post cat ?

2017 id be asking for goodwill unless your car has a bad service history or has done a ridiculous amount of mileage

If you know which of the 2 sensors it is. Would be easy to purchase on line.
Would likely be 400 from VW parts though.

    I have no idea unfortunately.
The car has not a lot of mileage, only 70k and has never had any major issue during servicing every year.
That's very unlucky I guess, not sure how long those sensor are suppose to last.

How can I know which one needs to be changed? If I unplug it, can I see it's damaged somehow?
Given I'm no expert as you can tell, maybe I should ask another garage by curiosity.

Take it to a non dealer VW mechanic and get another opinion.
