I have some backups...didnt do one for every minor change but its still a mild pain in the ass

Ha ha yes On some occasions I have written myself an instruction to follow while in the car and check off each step. I have a folder full of them now so know what I did each time.
Do an important one wrong and the car may become a big brick and dealer or someone may charge you $500 to reset it back to factory.
Yes it can be done but realize there are 7 pages of settings that possibly can be altered
Better than being wrong and Fing it up read my post above for consequences.
I found out the price when a BCM blew up in wifes Polo and car had to get reset to enable them to recode stuff.
All up it cost $1013 to fix what I thought was a bulb out light on the dash Had I not got a s/h part for $150 against $1100 for a new one it would have been a lot more.
