    Noises in Tiguan/Tiguan Allspace

I’ve created a thread to see what type of noises owners are experiencing in their Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace. I understand that noise level and type can be very subjective but I was interested in what people actually “hear” in their Tiguan.

    1. Muffled grating or scraping type of noise whenever I accelerate to about 2000rpm through all gears and speeds (easier to hear going from standstill through D1-D3 - even feathering the accelerator at 60kph at 2000rpm can reproduce it when environment is quiet. I initially thought it was like an old air conditioner’s refrigerator system was kicking in all of a sudden.

    2. Clicking noises when gradually slowing down/downshifting. Probably a normal operational noise as gears change but a bit too prominent. I think I occasionally heard the last gear downshifting before gradually coming to a full stop in my MK6 GTI as well but not so much as in my Allspace.

    3. The latest one is a bleeping noise when you open the door after ignition is off. It only happens at low rpm either by accelerating or letting the foot off it - then it stops as the car is slowly coming to a full stop. It sounds like a Morse Code message but not too loud lol This one is very hard to pick up and probably only audible in a very quiet street at night - initially. Now I can hear it during the day. It’s not a constant bleep but like someone’s sending a Morse Code. Sort of coming from above or around my right ear.

I’d better stop going out for a drive at night before I go crazy.

Btw I just found that it was already reported in my tiguan forum in 2013 and VW Vortex forum in 2011 - in MK6 GTI. I googled with the term Morse code noise or something like that and people were using the same description to report their findings. Advanced VW technologies.

Item 1 sounds like the vibration I had from a loose fuel line clips. Happened from new and took 2 visits to the dealership to fix under warranty.

Thanks for the heads up spacemannz. I’ll also look into that. But it sounded more like a muffled grating noise, it’s hard to describe in words but it’s very prominent on acceleration through all gears to 2000rpm and then diminishes due to engine noise etc. No noises at idle or revving at idle.

Yep worth checking out. Muffled grating from engine bay could be used to describe it. Only in certain low rev range, and sometimes when lifting off throttle. Not noticeable at idle.

Yep, I have had a similar one to number 1.
mine got louder over time (about 3 months) and sounded like a louder exhaust.
Same symptoms v only hear it at about 1700rpm to about 3000rpm
    No noise at idle
it it was diagnosed as loose fuel rail

    2. Sounds like normal operation of the DSG downshifting as you slow down

    3. ACC/Traffic Jam makes similar noises just behind the dash when slowing down v at least that what I think it is.

Thanks for that concise description, sounds just like mine except when lifting off throttle but it might be there, too.

    Thanks for the information iDiesel.

    1. It sounds just like mine and maybe it’s me but it definitely sounds louder than when I first heard it 2 weeks ago. So was the loose fuel rail causing the noise and is it gone now? I’ll quickly have a look in the area and see if the hose is out of the clips? Otherwise I’ll just take it to the dealer. Hopefully it’s a simple fix.

    2. Yeah that’s what I thought it might be as it was rhythmic as gears were changing but definitely more noticeable than DQ250.

    3. It may be that although it also does it as soon as I step on the accelerator lightly and starts to fade away immediately when I let it off. I’ll keep your information in mind as it sounds like some electrical device working.

The Volkswagen Group Self Study NVH literature states that the Direct Synchronisation Gearbox (DSG) is designed to “change gears without interference or noise.”
This implied representation by the manufacturer that there should be no noise emanating from the transmission has been found to be false and therefore gives rise to the customer to be highly concerned and request clarification of why the noise exists, what component is responsible and future prognosis.

VW declined to comment on the reasons for the noise, what component is responsible or future prognosis! SUrely VW are not trying to hide anything?

So did replacing or tightening loose fuel rail get rid of the noise completely? It looks like there is a bit of labour involved in removing the intake manifold to access there although it will be done under warranty.
