Hey guys, does anyone know whats required to get the "fart" noise out of the 162TSi, i saw someone mention is somewhere but cant find it. Also, I am looking to get this Plug n Play, I like that it can be reprogrammed for any car: CRTD4 Multi-Channel Petrol Tuning Box Chip (New Release) | Diesel Chip Tuning Multi-Channel Petrol Tuning Box Chip

    Hi TIG162R,

Before rushing out and spending your hard earned money, have a look at this forum under Forum

    • Tuning and Performance (inc ECU upgrades)

I think the general opinion is to stay away from "Add-on" or "piggy-back" modules as they have a history of causing problems. The feeling is that it is better to re-program or completely replace your OEM ECU.

From my own experience I can tell you that a decent tuning box (like JB1) comes pretty close to a full tune but an ECU tune is definitely superior. The main benefit is around AFR targeting and some other goodies that a tune box simply cannot control. My engine runs about 10C cooler on the ECU tune and produces more power as well.

Thanks Delewin & ewok666. I haven't managed to find anything about people having problems with the piggy-back ones, but good to know. I dont want to be doing any upgrades that are permanent either for warranty purposes. Any feedback on the DSG sound when shifting? I came across this video of what the 162TSI sounds like stock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO1AGmRLC1Y

I'm no expert in this area, but from what I have read, the general coconscious is that even the piggy back ones are now detectable after you've removed them, so for warranty purposes there is little difference between a plug in solution or a re-flash of the ECU.

For the DSG fart, I'm guessing you probably need physically to modify the exhaust.

The piggy backs would certainly be harder to detect that an outright flash but in my case it was because I had a newer ECU that couldn't be tuned for a couple of months. An it also easier to remove if there is any non-engine related warranty work. At the time it was about a third of the price of the APR tune courtesy of the rip-off importer back then but that has since changed. There was some discussion about digital and secure sensors where the ordinary piggy backs would no longer work. Not sure how far that has progressed. If I get the 162TSI then it will undoubtedly get an APR tune. It's working very well on my S3 and the days of the faulty turbos seem gone.

That's some serious KW quoted from the APR USA site for the 162TSI. Now that's a real sleeper.!!

Didn't realise the exhaust outlet was on either side .. thought it was on one side only. Good to know. Can someone confirm that this is the case with their 162tsi.. or is the outlet only on one side .. thanks

They have been ready for some time. I'm waiting for the 5,000km mark to get mine done.
