I have no opinion on Toyota's as I don't own one. But each time I talk to a RAC# guy and most general mechanics and they all say Toyota (only the ones made in Japan) are the most reliable and cheapest cars to maintain and service.

Plenty of Prados there right from 2006 with failed injectors mate.
I know a few owners of much younger models that needed a new engine well before 150,000km.

I am not a mechanic so I better not comment on Toyota's anymore

They're still considered as very reliable, though, trading on a good reputation pre 2000 and on the tunes of unbreakable Hilux and old Corollas. The one of my suppliers rep has a new Hilux 2.8D, he had a few problems. Honestly, when I saw the interior in it, I don't understand how anyone can buy it.

That's what I said when I sat inside a Grand Cherokee, and yet they still sell like hot cakes. The amount of cheap plastic trim and tacky chrome linings...

The interior of a VW is much nicer than other common brands. Except Mazda and the top SUV offerings from Kia and Hyundai.
Going in a Ford or Toyota feels a bit chintzy.

    Agree

The New 2021 Hyundai Tuscon interior & specs looks to surpass the Tiguan with a standard 10.5 inch sreen.
The button gears is an interesting direction for cars in the future.

New 2021 Ford Escape interior is an improvement but still falls short of the VW / Mazda / Hyundai

The Tucson interior will impress many.

I suspect a lot of Ford/Toyota/Jeep buyers have never spent time in say a VW interior - they're coming from older Ford/Toyota/Jeeps and so to them the interiors are fine.

I consider myself a car person and until I actually owned my first VW, I had not really given that much thought to the interior presentation and finish despite it being the spot where you spend most of your time.
