    INASNT 162TSI Build Thread

Got stage 1 ECU tune, DSG tune, pops and crackles done earlier today. Late last week tried to find a CTS downpipe but none available locally or could get it to me by today so it missed the cut.

    Some pictures and details.

    Videos

Inside the car during one of the power runs. As you can see transmission holds at 6000rpm in this run.

Outside the car during one of the power runs, tried to use the super slow motion on the Galaxy S9+ but you need a lot of light to not have the flickering effect. Did not turn out as I wanted to.

Max 165kw@4 wheels (red line). Green line was a smooth run, red line car was sitting at 6000rpm then cutting out on the dyno for some reason. Tried a few more times and kept doing the same thing thing, could not work out why it was doing this. We took it off the dyno and tested it on the road. Road test pulled hard all the way to just under 7000rpm with no problems. Gordie thought it could have been either the dyno holding the car at 6000rpm or the transmission cutting power while on the dyno.. We did do around 10 power runs so car was 'warm'.

Seems the main limiting factor is the stock IS20 turbo which is peaking out, plenty left in the injectors and fuel pump. IS38 is a straight bolt in , might have to consider this next...

With the 18's dyno readings I suspect would have been higher, as rolling resistance make a difference.

Either way the car was not doing on the road what it was doing on the dyno.

    Verdict
Huge improvement all through the rev range especially in mid-range, punches through the gears with so much more urgency to 7000rpm. In stock tune from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th the transmission would hold the gear for a long time before changing near 7000rpm. Only gave it a few runs on the way home as was in peak hour traffic, could not go back to stock tune now.

Launch control now set to 4000rpm. First launch after tune wheel spin half way through 1st gear, it made me laugh as it surprised me. Need to do a video on an empty stretch of road soon. Launch is brutal and should surprise a few cars at the traffic light drags.

Pops and crackles is programmed into 'Sport' mode. Outside the car can hear it pop and crackle under the drivers side a bit, cant hear anything from the rear, the large resonator and even larger muffler is stopping the noise. Not sure if the resonator delete would even help, will need a custom rear muffler along with resonator delete to make it sound like the GTI/R's as there's nothing off the shelf available.

Was a pleasure to work with Etuners and Gordie. Hopefully he does me a great deal on an IS38 upgrade

More videos to come once I get a chance to record them...

INASNT 162TSI Etuners Motorsport Stage 1 Tune

    Awesome!
Quick question does the on screen boost and kw in the centre screen still show 162kw as the max, and does it show increased boost pressure.
Pretty rad, I’m keen to get a tune. How many km had you done in the car?

    Nice work!

Good to se some people jumping in the deep end. A tune really brings these AWD cars to life.

IS38 and you should be pushing north of 200kwaw....

Yes 162 max, can't adjust that unfortunately. Boost is around 20psi now. With the gauge need to take into consideration 14.5psi atmosphere pressure which it reads under no load.

Oil got to 114 degrees. Think the stock VW oil is Castrol which is average. Have always used Motul on my other cars.

    Car had 6800km at tune.

None of my cars have stayed stock for very long..

IS38 should be closer to 250@4 wheels.

Yes CTS DP and IS38 and you'll be on the way. My guess is that with just IS38 and tune would be 200kwaw while DP / stage 2 with IS38 would be 210-215kwaw.

You have to remember that the Tiguan runs the DQ500 DSG and this does take a fair bit more out in terms of drivetrain losses than (say) the 6 speed DQ250 in the Golf R so you'll never get to Golf R numbers on the dyno. Stage 2 Golf R is 220-240kwaw for DSG cars depending on other supporting mods. If 250kwaw is your goal it would probably need something a bit more than an IS38 swap on a Tig.

Sounds like the performance of your Tig should be very similar to mine (etuners tune).

No real exact kw number goal for the TIG as its the daily driver with a baby seat in the back...IS38 at $2500 is a cheap power adder tho..

In my 20's I would have been like max power all the time, now just want it when I need it... Ideally I want a 'weekend' car which wont have a baby seat that I can modify as much as possible and not worry about it breaking down...now to convince the wife I need this weekend car...

I think for (say) $5k for a DP, IS38 and a tune this represents good bang for buck solution and will still drive like a “normal” road car rather than turning it onto something that’s not really drive-able as a daily.
