It does seem that people aren’t grasping the fact that allspace cannot EVER close the boot from inside the cabin, or with the key.

Whether it can be reprogrammed, I don’t know, but off the showroom- no.

Could this be a deliberate SAFETY feature, to make sure you do not close the boot while a child is trying to get in or out of the rear seats.

    Just a suggestion!

Some good post rationalisation there. But the fact that some SWB models can’t close it either makes me think otherwise.

That was the reason given away back in 2011 when I bought my Passat and as i have already said in this thread is probably the reason in the Allspace which is more likely to have kids around it.

Why some shorties do and others dont is only something a stealer could answer. Maybe but then one told me I could use the paddles when in D mode. Anyone confirm that?????
If some can do it there must be a way of coding it in.

From my vehicle specific information it has this

162 PE1 Vw Group Easy open package without SAFELOCK

It also has a reference to the easy open and close function which is the wave your willie under the bumper trick

I seriously wouldn’t be surprised if they are all meant to, but vw don’t know why. I’ve already had 1st hand experience with vw senior international engineering teams. It wasn’t confidence inspiring.

Perhaps there are different hardware items used- semi-randomly, or without proper communication between supplier, designer, r&d, manufacturing and then despatch, that cause these strange issues that vw have for many of their cars- within a given model and series. Vw then aren’t sure how to resolve and it takes several visits to a dealer for them to resolve on an ad-how database.

    Beta-testing in a way.
