    Hail damage

    My car has been damaged in the recent hail storm. There are more than 6 dents on the car, bonnet, roof, side panel and back door.
    I have contacted the insurance company and raised the claim.

    What's next? Can these damaged be fixed so it will look like never happened?
    Considering that we just bought the car less than 6 months ago, I would hate to look at those dents for the next 5-10 years.

    Yes small hail stone dents can be quite easily removed by a specialist. My family had two cars struck, about 40 dents, and the dent remover popped them all out with his specialist tools. There may be a back log of cars to do, they had to wait a few months to get the work done.

    Hail damage

    What classifies as a repairable hail dent? I live in Berowra Heights at ground zero and our passat took a beating. Our hail was between 5 and 8cm in size.

    Allianz wanted us to get windscreen replaced before assessing but were are in a long queue with a booking date of 23/1 as the earliest to get a replacement.

    I suggested they tow it for assessment and the soonest they can do that is 3/1 so it’s going to be a fun holidays!

    Amazed the pano roof survived given the state of the roof and bonnet. Both guards took a beating and the sills too but all the doors and tailgate seem fine.

    Bonnet looked similar to my old man’s damage and was repairable. However that deep imprint on the roof loooks pretty significant and you may need to visit a panel beater rather than a dent remover. But you never know, a skilled dent remove might be able to do it on site. It does look like you were in ground zero.....how did the house go, did the hail break roof tiles and house windows?

    Asbestos roof is like Swiss cheese, we may have to move out.

    Ouch, so sorry to hear and see that, mine is nothing compared to your damage. I hope everything will work out for you.

    Wow Fox, you got pumped up there.

    If the hail has cracked any paint, then it cannot be PDR (Paintless Dent Removal) and needs to be done by a smash repairer.

    Then it can get complicated as the repairers need to following "manufacturers" guidelines.

    For example we looked a BMW X series last week just after the hail storm where the cant rail and qtr panel were peppered hard by hail. Some of the dents had cracked the paint, others had not. BMW specified that in order to replace the outer qtr skin and cant rail the WHOLE side had to be replaced! As it's one unitary panel.

    If the same car was a private "non-insurance" repair. A good beater with enough time could have repaired it to "industry" standards.

    Oh and if I remember correctly, should the side need to be replaced. The manufacturers Compliance/Built tag on the B Pillar had to be removed and BMW would not re-issue a new one. They will however give you an inch of paper verifying the cars identity though etc...

    Long term when the time comes to sell / trade in that car if it's got no tag, it'll be a hard sell and dealers won't touch it.

    Mind you the above is worse case scenario.

    I got caught in the Kellyville hail storm back in 2017 where the damage was only contained to the bonnet with about 10 small dents.
    I contacted a PDR direct instead of going through insurance and was fast tracked for repairs but this still took about 6 weeks to get in. Repair took 5 days as the PDR needed to source additional staff from interstate.

    Went this way due to insurance excess was almost the price of the repair, the mucking around to get it accessed and limitation on repairable time frame.

    Ended up going with "The Dent Man" as Castle Hill, highly recommend their work.
