    GPS & Software Update

    Hi

My tiguan doesnt have a SD card in the slot, but does have an SD card slot. 2017 Trendline 110TSI.

How do I know if it has GPS? How can I tell?

Im thinking about updating software, have downloaded software (23GB). But no where to put the file. Do i just buy a big enough SD Card?

Well firstly have you read the manual It is fairly comprehensive and has as separate booklet about the MMI. Post a pic of the unit as there are several. Lastly have you looked through the menu in the unit and see if it includes "navigation"

A 110 may not have it but we are only guessing due to your lack of information

What you have downloaded is a MAP NOTHING MORE

You have to go into a navigation menu to update the software and yes you need a 32GB Sd card to load it onto and install the map IF its the correct unit (which we dont know)

So do some models run the maps database from an SD card and some run it from the onboard HDD?
Does this depend on Discover Media vs Discover Pro head units?

Yes thats why I asked what unit he has and some older ones need a dealer software update before they can update the maps. Mostly 2012-2015 models

Thanks for your comments. By way of settings it does not appear to have nav.

The car's manual is generic, and refers to navigation systems of the fully optioned models.

See below pics of unit, hard/soft screen. Let me know if you need any other info.

It looks like you have Volkswagen MIB2 Composition Media system there.
That system is not capable of displaying VW navigation as it does not have an inbuilt GPS.
Being a MIB 2 it may support Car Play/Android Auto - Press the menu button (lower right side) and scroll through to see. If this is the case than your options are to connect your mobile phone for navigation.

That’s my preferred option for navigation - Waze or Google Maps

it is nice having the inbuilt nav just to have something to refer to, but for guided nav, I find the app versions more accurate and easier to use
