SO they're calling the dealership to find out ..........


oh and they had records of me applying for a "change of ownership" 6 days ago for a completely different VIN

this is a GERMAN company, right?
They haven't been bought by Mahindra have they?

There's noone else who can supply and code the unit? Usually a lot of suppliers in the UK/Germany.

I'd also be calling Martin at Euro Car Upgrades to see if he has any ideas/advice - they're pretty good with VAG tech/coding/hacking etc: Euro Car Performance upgrades - ECU remaps - Navigation - Bluetooth - Latest Australia GPS maps - Auto electrics

After a few more phone calls and a bit of spamming of VW Aus socials I now have an update that suggests I will have a 7 Speed Tiguan early next week (the part is in Sydney)

As for getting the part from elsewhere, apparently for the 162kw model around 2017 (not sure if it applies to ALL Gen2 or just a small run) the TCU has to be coded to the VIN when it is built - it cannot be coded afterwards. Apparently.

This sounds like a major PITA for any VW owners outside of Germany

Well I'm told one can install a third party TCU for about $1k

I think the VIN matching to TCU during build is a BS story the dealership made up as an excuse, especially after you putting a bit of pressure on yours magically appears now after you were just last week given an ETA of late August..

I was always told it will "just turn up one day"
The dealership has been good about this and unless they're bloody good actors, they've been as frustrated as I have.
I'm willing to give them a free pass on this unless someone can tell me for sure that it's bullcrap

I was told the VIN matching "story" when I was checking the car in almost 9 weeks ago. Can't see why they'd make up crap to cover a 4 week blowout in the delivery before the blowout happened ...

Anyway - I pick it up tomorrow. I'm happy
