Anecdotally, I have used eco on the same trip as using sports..
With eco I got around 7.8l and in sports is was around 9.8ish..
This was a 30 minute drive into the city on the motorway in free flowing traffic..
Not really worth it in my opinion

Ok, so regardless of whether Eco is used or not does the driving mode stay the same if for example you use Sport?

Do ECO vs Normal for a better comparison. Sports holds the gears, changes the shift points - not a fair comparison.Quote:

Just an update on this... took it back to dealer and was told that it's completely normal behaviour for the instrument panel to show 'D' indicating 'Normal' mode and still showing 'Eco' within the driving profile on the infotainment system. The service advisor did not know why it did this but stated it even tells you this in the manual. It's not really an issue rather just a tad annoying, as one part of the system is saying one thing and another something else. IF I can be bothered I might take it up with VW, but considering the amount of times I actually use 'Eco', hmmm, probably not.
To get eco mode back fast, just turn the 4x4 selector know to snow and back again. If you had eco mode as the last profile, it will switch back to it.

This is great and works well as a band aid but as the previous person said it really only compenates for VW's poor software. Both parts of the driving mode should sync whether on the infotainment or instrument panel.Quote:

Ok so I did decide to pursue this with VW Australia and this is the response I got :
As per our conversation yesterday, I have received a response from our Technical department here at Volkswagen Head Office and they have supplied me with the following response to your inquiry:
After calendar week 22/17, this function has been changed, where after an ignition cycle (bus-silence), the gear selection will revert back to “D” mode.
This cannot be changed and is a characteristic of design and meant to be this way.
Please also refer to the owner’s manual section - Selecting driving profiles
The driving profiles Sport and Eco will also remain set after the ignition has been switched off.
However, settings for the engine and DSG[emoji768] dual clutch gearbox may switch to the Normal driving profile when the ignition is switched on again.
In order to reactivate the Sport and Eco functions, you must re-select the Sport or Eco driving profile or move the selector lever to “S” for the Sport profile.
So the question is whether this is an acceptable answer from VW, IMO probably not. Live with it or go further?
