Do I need snow chains with Tiguan 4motion

Hi, I am bit confused re snow chains.

We are planning to visit Selwyn this weekend and the requirement for NSW parks is snow chains for cars except 4WD or AWD.

Setting aside safety Tiguan 4motion is 4WD on need basis. Am I legally covered not to take the snow chains and will Tiguan be considered 4WD?

For NSW, you do not legally require snow chains on that vehicle.
    Cheers

Is 4motion AWD or 4WD, if I'm stopped by the ranger?

There is also another thread on snow chains that provides some info about that topic. Unless you have 17” wheels I don’t think it is possible to fit them...

I believe 4motion is AWD, not 100% sure though

AWD but either is fine in NSW

In snow you’d be a lot more sure-footed in a 2WD car with chains than a Tiggy without IMO so if it’s snowy take it very easy

No, you don't need chains with 4motion models.
Just came back from a week in Perisher. We had a lot of snow on the road coming in and the ranger waived me through the chain bay when I stated it was 4wd.

Quoted for truth, so many vehicles I see each year off the road at perisher are 4wd’s. Range rovers, Subaru’s, even the odd land cruiser. 4wd or AWD is not an excuse to not drive to the conditions. I took chains for my Passat with AT snow tires. You just never know when chains can mean the difference between self recovery or towing!

Very true, better safe then sorry! Its always good to be prepared for the worst, even if for assisting others.
