    Unhappy Electric seat dead after battery test

    I got a front drivers seat from a 2019 Tiguan Highline and was testing it with direct power today with a battery. After using the position controls, I pressed one of the memory position buttons. The seat began moving to the memory position for about 1 second and then stopped. I did this a couple more times with the same response from all 3 position buttons.

    I then went back to using the position controls and within a few seconds the seat went dead.

    I've done the following:

    • Tried a different battery
    • Removed the controller circuit board to inspect for anything burned
    • Disconnected each button control module 1 at a time
    • Tested each motor with direct power - all ok

    Have I fried the control board? Pics attached for reference.

    One thing to note with these seats is if you have it back beyond a certain point it wont return to its set place It also wont reverse for easy exit. Mine did it and VW put markers on side of seat to show where not to move it back past. Aslo wont work if voltage drops too far.

    Dont know about a Tig but the base with all the gear in for a Passat is just over $1000

    This is what I'm thinking has happened. I'm looking at the idea of wiring up the seat to my Amarok in order to access it with VCDS to clear faults/recalibrate or something like that.

    My guess would be the seat controller is looking for a can bus signal to say the ignition is on something like the Klemmen_Status_01 on the MQB platform.

    Do you have a scan tool? You can directly hook it up to the CAN high and low pins in the harness and see if it communicates.

    Or you could try creating a test bench setup like in this thread Testbench setup? | Page 10 | Ross-Tech Forums

    I have VCD and a OBD bluetooth dongle. If I identify the CAN pins on the seat control module and the OBD connection, can I communicate with it that way?

    I will look into the test bench thread you linked.

    Hi
    connect to OBD2 with VCDs and look and search for module 36 .

    ECU: 0036 - Seat Adjustment Driver Side

    See if you can log into DTC error any messages there. If you can access coding , adaptation of module 36 , than Can communication from driver seat to Car is fine and control module is responding to car gateway, But you my have some other problem which need to be addressed with special VW software only .
    Regards

    Where should I connect the module to my Amarok? Or is there way to connect directly to the seat module without a vehicle? Here is an old auto scan from my Amarok:

    You can connect directly to the module; my first bench setup was a cheap OBD female connector and hooked up the following pinout.

    4, 5 = Gnd
    16 = Bat+
    6 = CAN H
    14 = CAN L

    You can tell the CAN wires are coloured (orange with a colour band = CAN H) (orange with a brown band = CAN L)
