ACC Refused to engage - red pointer

Our Tiguan would not engage ACC
pressing the SET button just showed a red pointer on the speedo, where normally it goes green.

    Anyone know what causes this?

Could it be that it is the speed limit function, not ACC? I think the ACC button cycles between ACC on, Speed Limit on, or all off.

Is there an exclamation mark beside the pointer?

No exclamation mark. Just the red pointer, instead of green, or grey.

could well be. I might have toggled that by mistake, as it was working fine today. I’ll keep that in mind and try it deliberately tomorrow to see. Cheers.

What I don't get is why isn't the speed limit function on at the same time? I.e. I don't ever want the car to go over a speed I set the ACC at.

When the ACC is engaged, it does apply the brakes to keep the car at the speed selected.
I always thought the speed limit option was just to remind a driver who is happy driver in manual/human mode that they have reached the limit.

Does it remind or actually cap your speed?

Cap. Will actively brake going down a hill, to keep me within 1-2kmh of set speed. Golf and Tiguan act the same.

But my ACC does that. As the first letter suggests, it actively slows the car downhill and to slow down behind slowing cars.
