    Thanks Dose

Searching, there seems to be ones with similar names. Is the one at SCA the same that you are referring?

Castrol EDGE Professional LongLife III 5W-30

    CASTROL EDGE 0W-40 A3/B4

    Supercheapauto Castrol Edge Engine Oil - 0W-40 5 Litre - $88.99

Make sure it has LL at the end of the viscosity rating as these cars do have a long service interval.

    The ones you've listed aren't the correct oils as they aren't VW504 / VW507 compliant. They're VW502 / VW505.

The below is the one that's correct for our cars, albeit it says diesel.

Castrol Edge Diesel DPF Engine Oil - 5W-30 LL 5 Litre | Supercheap Auto

I actually bought Penrite Enviro+ 5W30 for my next oil change, I'm a bit of a Penrite fan

    SuperCheapAuto - Shell Helix Ultra ECT C3 Engine Oil - 5W-30 5 Litre - $69.99

    Volkswagen 504.00/507.00 Approved Oils
Volkswagen Oil Standard 504.00 / 507.00 Approved Oils

It quite plainly says on the rear of the bottle if it is VW APPROVED

The two links above are dead right and I usually use Penrite Enviro+ NOT THE +10 version Look on the label as i said

However due to an error on Supercheaps website I scored 10L of the Castrol for $75 a couple of weeks ago

Petrol engines can use 502/505 oil but it doesnt hurt to use a better grade and as up till this month I had a petrol and a diesel so used the higher grade in both

    EDIT AFTER YOU POSTED

If its got VW APPROVED on the bottle its OK

if its got SUITABLE FOR or nothing referring to VW ITS NOT

Several containers look identical so always look at the specs label

I recently bought the Castrol one you linked- it is currently half price at SCA

Also, when I asked where the oil was the guy at SCA mentioned he personally uses the Penrite too...

The one thats half price is a 502/505 A3 B4 grade oil for petrol engines OR Diesels WITHOUT a DPF as per here

Castrol Edge Engine Oil - 5W-30 5 Litre | Supercheap Auto

but is NOT approved for a Tig petrol motor other than to use .5 of a L to top it up in an emergency

In the MANUAL that book still in the plastic it says that the correct oil that the vehicle has been filled with is on a sticker beside the bonnet lock.

I have just looked and my 162 has 504/507 on it so I wont be buying the half price stuff however tempting it is.

The 504/507 oil has an orange sticker with DPF Compatible on it at the top of the label as per here

Castrol Edge Diesel DPF Engine Oil - 5W-30 LL 5 Litre | Supercheap Auto

The two LL's make a L of a difference and should be used as per your manual.

Its not so much the brand as the correct type and viscosity that matters

However I agree with using Penrite as mine have been on it since new 8 years ago
