Fun Friday Story! Infotainment Control Unit Replaced!

    Real Fun Story!

Took my car to dealer for first service.

Asked if there was a update for the infotainment cause the Apple Car-play sometimes black screen and stuck.

They did the update and broke the main controlling unit. It would not update anymore and kept getting error.

They decided today to replace the whole infotainment unit inside the glove box.

Cost was $5000+ and labors. Inside warranty of course.

A little software update, man. Well done, VW.

What version was on your previous unit and what is on your current unit?

    See the photo.

They tried to update it to K3332 and failed.

The car is with dealer and I will be picking it up this afternoon.

The software version is truncated there at the top. It's 0687 or something similar

Your old unit will be refurbished, probably just a software glitch. Can then be put back into the pool of refurb units to be used on someone else’s car. Happens Moree frequently than you mit think.

    Totally understand the process.

    The cost is still ridiculous.

Sure is. Although that is retail price for a new retail packaged item. The actual cost for a warranty fit of a reco unit would be in the hundreds I reckon.

Of course, you might have scored a new unit if there were no reco’s available

    Just follow up.

Took the car back with new unit and SW version: 118X (1189 or 1186) can't remember.

Updated the Map data myself with 0068 V2

    All working flawlessly

    Cheers

Moral of the Story, Never take your car back to the dealer. put up with the problem or get someone else to fix it.

I have never had a positive experience returning car to dealer.

E.g. no oil in car after service, replaced wrong rubber strip 3 times. Put old brake pads instead of new ones. Put wrong type of oil in engine. Car returned with someone else wheels on it. I am 60 years old and have had a lot of cars.
The Car: MY20 Black Golf R Final Edition, 5 Door, Driver assistance package, Sun Roof.
