    Big dillema...

    Hi

My passat (b7 tdi wagon) reached 300.000km and time to go. I found B7 very reliable but only if you service it by book.

    I am considering 2017 passat 206, 2016 Wolfsburg tdi or 2015 Tuareg.

Hard to decide...i am not driving on field anymore so diesel is not essential.
Bigger car has advantages...also disadvantages (cost)

My biggest wish would be an Arteon but can not find any in Victoria below 50k.

    My budget is 40k.

Can you help me with suggestions...

I currently own a 2017 206TSI Wagon - great car. A good package with decent interior space and engine performance. Also relatively affordable to maintain and run.

I have owned a 2011 Touareg 180TDI previously - while it was a nice car, repair and maintenance were starting to get expensive.

If you don't need the ground clearance of a SUV, the Passat Wagon is a much nicer driver car.

Passat 206 would be my pick. A nice looking car with plenty of space. An engine with plenty of power yet still very fuel efficient. And none of the modern diesel issues (DPF/EGR etc) if you are not doing the long drives on a regular basis anymore.

I can't comment on the Touerag...

However I have owned many B6 / B7 and now B8 Passats before.
    All have been fantastic...

I have an Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition, looking online. The cheapest are now around the $43k - $45k mark.

I have a Superb also (206TSI), so I have the best of both worlds.
Love the power of the 206TSI, but love the economy of the TDI.

The Superb is a bigger car than the Passat in most important areas.
But the Passat is much more refined vehicle.

Good luck with your search... I might sell you my Wolfsburg if you are serious...

I checked with both AAMI and RACV (my current insurer) and they were both around the same max agreed value. My issue is my car is 3years old, has less than 30k km and if it got written off or stolen and not recovered, i would not be able to buy another one except for a 2nd hand one. So i took the max agreed i could get and with $1k excess and windscreen cover it is costing me less than $1k.
