I've disconnected the battery in my 2010.5 R36 wagon before and had no problems with lost settings - the seat/mirror position memory remained intact, as did the radio presets, but the trip computer readings did reset.

The instrument cluster lit up like a Christmas tree at the first restart after reconnecting the battery, but that was expected, and all was well by the time I got to the end of the street (various sensors needed to recalibrate themselves after the powercycle). Fuel consumption, idle and shift quality were all normal so far as I could tell.
