Things to check on an 08 R36?

    Hi friends,

It's been a very long time since I was in the VW family and it looks like I may be coming back.

    I have my eyes on a 2008 (my09) r36 with roughly 120,000km.

It has a full service book history and appears to have undergone all the services at a Volkswagen dealership, however I cannot verify the extra items having been done (haldex oil, etc).

When inspecting the car in person, what should I look/listen for? Are there any obvious signs or red flags?

    Thanks again everyone.

Listen to cold startup for excessive timing chain noise (should not make any rattle for more than a couple of seconds from cold while oil pressure comes up).
Test DSG for any hesitation on changing between forward and reverse gears, or any clunky engagement.
Ideally get an inspection from a VW specialist.

Thanks Karnold, good to see you still around!

Is getting a vw specialist still a valid thing when the car is being sold by a dealer? (smaller dealer). Or is that not accepted?

Yeah of course you can still get an independent inspection.
Have a little more security with the statutory warranty that dealers need to provide, but still better to know beforehand if it's going to be potentially problematic.
