Those kits are not for 02E 6 speed DSG transmissions.
Only for the Aisin 6 speed torque converter autos (and the earlier 4 speed 01M).

The DSG transmission is essentially a manual gearbox with an electronic brain which controls the clutches etc. So its quite different to a traditional torque converter automatic.

There are multiple companies who offer DSG tunes which speed up gearchanges, reduce clutch slip, increase clutch clamping pressures, increase the RPM at which the car changes gear etc etc to reduce labouring the engine etc etc.

In terms of rebuild you can take the mechatronics out and replace all the solenoids, seals and gaskets.
And of course the clutches can be replaced. Beyond that there are transmission specialists who can work on the internals.

ahh no worries yeh ive played around with general automatics but not a dsg. sounds like the mechatronics are same as a electrics kit in a 722.6 mercedes trans. is there aftermarket kits for solenoids seals and gaskets or just genuine?

No its nothing like a 722.6 Mercedes gearbox (which i had to Google to find out WTF that was).

If you want to compare it to a Mercedes gearbox then its very similar to what Mercedes use in the A45 and A35 AMG hatchbacks.

There are aftermarket suppliers of clutch packs (they are upgraded so designed for modified cars) but as far as i am aware, all other internal components are genuine parts only.

What are you actually trying to accomplish? Or are you just wanting to learn about the transmission? If you want to learn im sure there are dozens of technical vides on Youtube that could explain how it works much better than anyone on here can.

Well they are very strong and reliable in general (excluding the DQ200 7 speed dry clutch which is an epic fail). So the DQ250 which is the 6 speed wet clutch unit fitted to most cars from about 2005 onwards (Golf, Passat etc) is generally very good. They are sensitive in respect that they need scheduled oil changes (every 4 years or 60,000km - im getting mine done at the end of this month) and of course as they are now 15 yrs old some components will be wearing out or failing (clutches and mechatronics etc). Obviously in some cases you will get a dud gearbox, but in general they are very good and can take quite a bit of abuse with people who have Golf GTI's and Golf R's and have modified them to produce twice the factory power.

awesome thank you for the information. im on 180,000kms and its been well looked after, only thing i have noticed is a light shudder on occasional takeoff . apart from that i like the way dsg's drive. im going to do a fluid change over the weekend.
