As stated in the first post, the car isn't mine.

I hardly doubt that the owner has no idea about anything since he built the car

when i was down in melbourne i took a look!
oh well he told me he bought it like it was ?
also didn't know if that engine from the seat had been registered with the car?
didn't know if it had a cat converter

you probably know this but in syd if you do the engine conversion it has to to comply
to emission standards of that year of the engine.
he also told me he didn't know what year the engine was and said the car came with it?

didnt have any papers from previous owner either?

I'm not going to get into an argument on this thread but he did mention your visit.

You have to remember this car was built a quite a while ago, so it's understandable that there might be a few things someone forgotten.
Trying to get a mk 1 with history is like trying to juggle chain saws. naked. in the middle of a rugby scrum. It's going to be difficult.
Basically, I don't see how by not having some of the cars history it is a bit 'sketch'.

This car is a bargain. A rust free mk 1 2door with fresh (and professionally done) paint is worth 5K alone, let alone the facts it's got an engine swap, it's a GENUINE GTI and has a whole bunch of new parts under it. All it needs is a few days of TLC to to get it ready for rego.

Check your local laws, but the GTI, being an import, will probably be able to be registered without an issue with the 2.0 8V, without cat etc. No way RTA can prove that the engine didn't come in the car.

Any further questions about the car, please contact Dean.

LOL swaping an 8v for an 8v is not an engine conversion.........

Nice to see a GTI, hopefully it goes to a good home.

    thanks but!
i did some research and it says something about a power increase needs a engineer cert?
we got some crap new laws or something recently in syd?
so im guessing the seat 8v is a power increase?

8v don't have any power so there is no power increase. You would get a bigger increase in power if you put an exhaust on a 1.6. From memory the GTI K-jet 8valve made 110hp....the Seat 2L makes 113.....

This is how the convo goes if by some miracle someone has a problem with it having a different 8v in it:
You: "The original motor spun a bearing so I replaced the bottom end with another mk1 bottom end....."
Gaylord: "Why is the rocker cover different?"
You: "Don't be a Gaylord, i change the rocker cover because it looks better"

Most people on this forum wouldn't be able to tell the difference, let alone someone at the RTA.

5k full respray is an absolute bargain. It will be easy to register in NSW.

even if there is not one single paper for the car
and its never been registered with that engine in it?
