Yes that’s right some people like cherry flavour, some may like vanilla flavour in the car wash shampoo. What I would like to know why you would spend $400 on a paint protection which should last 5 years and the maintenance additional $800 to $1000 in carwash shampoo.
It makes more sense to me to spend $800 for good paint protection and $40 on carwash shampoo.
Because I don't know of any paint protection that lasts 5 or 7 years...
And thus far, you haven't actually given us any names either :)

Well... I've searched far and wide, and searches such as the above either just come up with snake oil, people whinging about snake oil, even motoring organisations such as NRMA producing editorials warning people about snake oil...
The only stuff which lasts 5 or 7 years are Paint Protection Films...
Maybe "aftermarket hard clear coats" - but the jury is out on them, cause they haven't yet been out for 5 or 7 years.
There are plenty of products which SAY they last 5 or 7, or even more years, but the reality is they don't.
Take g|Techniq C1. It's garanteed for 5 years. But no detailer who knows ANYTHING will give you that guarantee certificate, cause we all know it's more realistically 2 years. It's still a great product for those 2 years though...
NO paint protection will last 5-7 years. I don't care what anyone or any company says. Anyone who says this is a con and is not reputable. Sorry to be so blunt, but thats the way it is. You only have to look at how much crap you pick up off a clay bar after 12 months on the road to see that there is no way a car can go for 5-7 years without a spring clean.
I know people who maintained their car with Turtle Wax and Armor All wash. After 10 years the paint is in good nick, simply by reapplying the Turtle Wax every 3 months. You can go cheap or go expensive, depending on your budget and personal preference, but as long as you are putting on some sort of protection on a regular basis you will be fine. Usually, a wax should be reapplied every 3 months whilst sealants can last 12 months.
Me personally, I am moving to Nanolex sealant and re-activating car wash. It costs $120 for a litre for the car wash. Using 20mL per wash equates to about 50 washes, or a cost of $2.40 which is not much more than meguiars, for what is a better product. Washing your car once a fortnight will cost less than a tank of fuel over the year. ($60)
The nanolex sealant and cleaner will come close to $100 for the larger bottle, but that will be good for applying at least 6 times onto a decent sized car, so it could last six years. So lets say the average cost per year is $20.
A good claybar is $50 and one claybar is good for two applications. So lets say $25 per year.
Some polish - for arguments sake, $30 per year.
So, with some other incidentals, it is easy to maintain your car with high quality products for $150 per year, which in the grand scheme of car ownership is peanuts!!!!!!!!! Think how much you spend on rego, CTP, insurance, fuel, depreciation, servicing, etc.
