Thumbs up vw nats RESULTS and DISCUSSION

    hey guys!

was a great turn out and results !!! congratulations to all who HELPED! especially GOLF LOON,WABIT,THE HAWK and DVR68U! big slap on the back guys!

we had a total of 78 cars which is a huge jump from the 50 odd last year!! thanks again guys!

I came second place ,again the brides maid to Adrian!! heheheh

KUDOS to the interstaters for making the trip! nice to see your faces and see some other vdubs in the flesh!

Was a little disappointed with CLUBVW and there changing of the entry structure that we had agreed upon and hense the extra stress on our 2 JUDGES,I will be bringing this up with them.

Also strange how some catagories were mixed up,alot of people were upset. This is not the fault of the judges as judges were not told if the car was in modified or standard, only a car number was on the judging forms.

I do personally apologise to those people that are upset and I will be discussing this with golf loon and clubvw early this week.

I also would like to thank CLUBVW again for hosting us and hope we can work together to make next year even better.

Thanks again guys! it was a great day!!!!!

It was a good day. Taking our 1st in Modified Mk3 was a highlight for me

Yes there was a few sour points that will need to be discussed with Club VW, but at the end of the day we all got in there (however tightly) and made a bigger showing than last year. At least we (the watercooled people) are showing a growing commitment to what, lets face it, is a HEAVILY air cooled slanted event.

As for plans for next year, I heard a lot of good ideas floating around today and with the extra weight our growing numbers brings we can argue for better conditions next year.

Few of the highlights of ideas from my point of view:

    * Organise all the cars in the car park or other designated place between 7am and 9am, then drive them all in in succession ie Mk1's, then Mk2's etc etc. This way we have all the cars lined up right without all the hassle. (it also means all cars MUST be there early enough.

    * Judging to be split so we have more judges doing less. 2 for Mk1, 2 for Mk2, 2 for Mk3 etc (with cross over where needed). By sharing the load it means everyone can enter, but can't judge their own category. It also means judging isn't a heavy load for any one or two persons.

    * While on judging, it would make a lot of sense just to write on the stickers Cat #32M or Cat #17S to show category and standard modified.

All of these things seem simple, but then good solutions usually are

It was a good day.. I won modified MK 5. Cheers.

    My issues..

    1. Some categories did not apply to me but I thought that certain people winning for standard when they were obviously the total opposite was a little harsh. As they were some mint stock rides. MK1 through 5.

    2. Parking... We had to all squash in... Air cooled had 3 metre gaps...

    Other than that all good.

Well done to all who were able to attend Even though I took 95vr6's mk 3 along had a good day and yes some issues need to be sorted which I believe we are all aware of, with some good comments already filtering thru which I wont add to.

BTW not a chance today's winning MK3 Standard will win every year!!! And for those who didnt attend yes it's up for sale with just 56,000km on the clock and may I say its drives GREAT!!! Having the fortune of driving it again after many a years absence today, all I'd say is that if I had the cash I'd buy it right now to stop anyone else getting their hands on it. Biased, hell yes coz I've driven it Worth the money you bet, better hurry guys as now its a show winner so worth more

Overall good day I thought, be interesting to see percentage of air cooled to water cooled cars there today, maybe one of the admin team can advise at some point.

Great day - tiring on the legs though aye!

Like to extend my thanks to the helpers as well, waking up too early on a cold Sunday morning! The pre-entry thing was very smooth and easy, thanks for doing that Aaron!

Entering the showgrounds was different to last year like you said George, but I found it more smoother. There was enough space to diverge off once you entered through the gates.

I was glad we got in early as it made parking slightly more easier. By the time 9am ticked over, it was impossible to park properly. Parked cars had to be moved around and it was just an annoyance, like the bloody speakerphones. Someone has to tell the MC his volume was wayyy too high!
My suggestion for parking is to utilise angle parking like we did last year. Moving around made it more easier. I guess the problem with using angle parking is taking up too much space, but then again, some of the aircooled cars took up 2 and even 3 cars worth of space.

Handing out of the trophies were a tad disorganised - 2nd place winners were announced but some weren't given trophies (although a huge uproar was a worthy substitute, haha Josh).

Oh, and we gotta start coming up with new traditions haha. Seeing them use a Caddy as a platform for the engine blow wasn't the easiest thing to watch!
