    Tuned or Stock?

Hey guys. We bought a Tiguan recently after creating a shortlist on Carsales and the misses taking it for a quick test drive. Once we got it home, I took it for a drive and couldn’t believe how quick it is! Having never driven any other Tiguans, how do I know if it’s tuned or stock? My fear is that I outlay for an APR stage 1, but get no improvement, because it’s already tuned. TIA.

    What model do you have?

You could stick it on a dyno and/or time a 0-100. I have found the 0-100 is pretty accurate test but you’ll need a GPS based timer, flat road and be able to use launch control.

    Just saw your first post....

For a 132TSI these are 7.9sec 0-100 stock so should feel reasonably responsive.

If it’s been tuned it will keep pulling to redline but stock the output basically flattens after 4,000rpm.

Probably the most popular tune for this model was APR. These cars have a selectable tune via the cruise control stalk.

Press and hold the Cruise control set button (with cruise turned on) on the left hand stalk. 1 blink per second = program #1, 2 blinks = program #2, etc.

    The default settings are: 1. Stock / 2. 95RON / 3. 98RON / 4. Valet

If this works then you know it's got an APR tune in it. If it doesn't then just drive it and enjoy it

Thanks mate. Some great tips there. Very wet in Perth this weekend, but I’ll update you when I get a dry opportunity to test it.

Based on the above, the car is stock. So I have just booked it in for APR stage 1 and DSG tunes. 😮

Nice. If you thought it was quick before then it'll be even quicker once you get the tune done.

Tiguan went in the shop Monday. We were told there is no TCU tune for the DSG 7-speed, so we only had the ECU tune done. As many others have stated, the performance improvement is remarkable. Unfortunately, 48hrs later it seems to go into limp mode with Check Engine and EPC lights on. I have a phone appointment with the technician tomorrow morning to try to diagnose it. Hopefully, we won’t have to tow it back to the shop. Will let you know.

What year Tiguan? There’s definitely TCU/DSG tune available for these. Perhaps you need to talk to another workshop?

In terms of EPC and CEL could be a few things. May be as simple as a dodgy coil pack as these have been known to go on tuned motors.

2014. To be honest, after (briefly) experiencing the ECU tune, I don’t mind that I’ve saved the money. The car is way fast enough now. It is the missus’s car after all. 🤣

2 coil packs replaced. The technician was good enough to come out to our house to do it. I’ll take it for a spin after work. Hopefully, get a chance on the weekend to give it a good workout. 😃
