Hi Scott,
Im not on here much but just stumbled across your thread. Im not a sponsor over here so i hope im not breaking any rules, will comment anyway.
Most of the info is on the website but just a bit of info on these:
As others have mentioned the pipe diameter around the MAF area is very important. Being specifically molded cross link poly pipe the diameter is the correct size to give good fuel trims. No other intake using steel piping will be able to do this. The simple fact is unless you do a specific run at a mill (which will be tonnes and tonnes worth) the closest pipe is 2.75 inch. Which is wrong. Im not 100% sure so dont quote me on this but i think other intake in question did a cheap fix by inserting a sleeve into the pipe to help change the diameter. 9/10 cars ive seen with these intakes or other intakes with the same size pipe have had fuel trims out of whack.
Whilst the intakes are manufacture in the US, we modify them in house to help fit out Euro model Golf's as their are some small differences. We also include our own heat shield which helps get a bit of heat way from the MAF sensor which is very sensitive.
We are always here to help, please feel free to ask any questions. We have sold well over 100 of these and im glad to say have had zero problems.
Engine covers are super popular. The intercoolers seem to work well and are good value for money.
Free delivery Australia wide on everything we sell.
Cheers
If you are referring to VWR, they do not use 2.75" pipe, it is a pipe diameter specially drawn to size.
A sleeve was not a fix for AU delivered pipes, so are you referring to the Forge intake pipe? Or are you trying to assume something you know nothing about (VWR Intakes)?
Don't forget, intake size & profile is only one component that can effect fuel trims, there are many more variables & the most common causes are not intakes.
Yes, some other companies are using the incorrect pipe size, being 2.75". Which we all know is wrong.
Wasnt APR offering warranty replacements a while back guy? If this was just the USA then does Australia still have the old ones that dont work? I believe there was a revised version, doing a quick search makes mention of this sleeve revision here http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...ion-85281.html
Im sure i could dig up 10 more related topics if anyone needs them. Maybe i do know what im talking about after all...
So we dont get too far off topic. People should do there own research regarding what intakes work best with our sensitive cars as of course each supplier will back there own product.
Yes, that is correct - if you live in the US & have a US specific intake, you may take it back to APR if you think there is a problem. As you are already aware, our intakes are different, and the AU delivered ones were never a part of the problem - that is why we have never had a warranty issue with them.
People can do their own research, but also be aware of vendors (who don't even sponsor the forum) casting doubt about other companies products - especially without proof.
The Yanks love to analyse everything though, nearly all who bought a vwr intake over there (well, nearly all forum posters) was also data logging with vcds, how many do that here?
A lot of people do their own logging here now and a lot of cables are shared around between mates too. I have several logs and fault codes for lean fuel trims beyond the specified limit for intakes, 1 in particular but i better not post any up as im not a forum sponsor.
Yep, the point I was making was the issue about bad trims for the VWR became very well known about in the US forums, but that is not to say it is a US only issue, it is just it was logged a whole lot less here...
Well I am a sponsor and cannot recommend the Tarmac intake highly enough, especially at the PRICE, which is impossible to beat. Awesome product, credit where credit is due. I'd have one tomorrow. I wish I had such a good intake to sell at such an incredible price. I have recommended lots of people that way, and I have intakes available to me to sell for good profit - I believe in Tarmac's that much - unlike others that just sell you what they have regardless.
Is there anyone install Tarmac intercooler for gti??
