    R36 - Worth Getting a Tune

    Hey team,

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but is a tune for an R36 remotely worth it?

I'm thinking the DSG tune itself and leave the ECU alone as it's pretty highly strung from the factory however increasing the revs a touch to act a bit more like a normal auto would be nice.

Also - would a Haldex controller be worth it over a tune?

ECU tune is 5-10kW at best. You’re right there’s probably more gains out of the DSG in terms of drive ability and torque limits.

I had a gen4 Haldex controller in my gen1 Tiguan and it certainly improved the front wheel bias shifting more power to the rears sooner and making more a 50/50 split. It’s a good mod but is still reasonably pricey for a relatively small gain in n some driving situations. It certainly makes it more enjoyable in the twisties but as you say there’s not a whole lot of gains to be had on an R36 without tipping a heap of $ in.

I’d probably invest in a decent set of tyres first.

Doing the IE ecu tune just now has shown me how outa whack the DSG tune is, going to go for a box tune over a controller (I think, more research required)....

Have a look here for R36 tune info (although this tuner is no longer active in Aust as far as i am aware it will give you an idea of what to expect) .

+15kw peak and +25nm peak but nothing really noticeably below 4,000rpm. But above 4,000rpm it would certainly be noticeable. And throttle response is improved making the engine feel more eager.
