Ive been trying to do some research on what is on offer for performance upgrades for the GTI. Can't really find much info on the net that is in Australia. What places offer kits, like stage 1,2 and 3 sort of thing... preferably in nsw. Thanks guys

Where in NSW are you? Depending on where you are based will be your limiting factor for upgrades.
A lot of people are using the Burger Motorsports JB1 tuning device, which has proven gains on the Mk7 GTI and R, is about 1/2 the price of most other tunes, and can easily be DIY fitted/removed so they are quite handy. See here: http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...le-114939.html
Otherwise, you have the likes of aftermarket ECU tuners such as APR, Revo, GIAC and then custom tuners like Recode, Underground Performance and Tarmac Engineering. These places will upload new software to your cars ECU.
Stage 1 is an update to the cars ECU only.
Stage 2 is an ECU update combined with an aftermarket hi-flow downpipe and intake. Upgraded intercooler is optional.
Stage 3 is an upgrade to the larger Golf R turbo with all of the other upgrades mentioned in in stage 2.
Stage 2 sounds the goods for what i would use it for, im guessing you can add a turbo back exhaust? Do they dyno the car with the stage 2?
Oh and im in sydney... just trying to decide between the new tiguan 162 r line and a golf gti performance. Big difference i know lol.

Depending on budget
1) best but most expensive. A custom tune from Recode in Sth Sydney. He will supply a final dyno printout of your results.
2) APR tune from Muller & Muller. Approx $1100. No dyno but you can get this done elsewhere for $100 or so.
3) Burger Motorsports JB1 tuning device. Approx $500-600. No dyno but you can get this yourself for $100 or so.
As for the turboback exhaust - this is optional. The main restriction in the exhaust system on these cars is the factory downpipe.
Thanks bud. I have been on recodes website and had a look around.
Are these places just tuners or will they do the mechanical work too?
Am i correct thinking that the downpipe is from the turbo to the cats? If so, this would be changed with a turbo back system?
Whats a good system? Miltek? Xforce?
Sorry if this has been covered in the mk7 sub forum

Ring Mark from Recode and double check - but i think he does do some parts installations. Downpipe replaces the 2x cats thats these cars have and runs about half way between the front and rear wheels. Plenty of exhaust brands to choose from depending on what you want to spend. Have a look at DubAddiction who sell CTS exhausts.
No worries, i will give him a call today.
I cant find all that many, seems milltek is pretty widely used?. I will check out the place you mentioned. I havent figured out a budget yet, i will wait till i get a better understanding of everything first and a price on the car this weekend.
Milltek are fine but quite expensive. I have the CTS exhaust on my Mk6 GTI and it has a good sound and is well made and cheaper than Milltek. CTS are from Canada.
Also consider Unitronic exhausts as they are really nice too.
Downpipe for Mk7: CTS Turbo MK7 GTI/Golf Downpipe with Catalytic Converter [CTS-EXH-DP-0014] - $999.00 : Dub Addiction
Catback for Mk7: CTS Turbo MK7 GTI 3 Cat Back Exhaust [CTS-EXH-CB-0007] - $1,399.00 : Dub Addiction
