building a 2L 8v for turbo?

how many parts are out there for the 1.8 and 2L 8v engines that were in the mk3 Golf for building them for forced induction?!

-low com pistons
-lower compression
-custom manifold
-custom exhaust manifold
-ecu?

not being built for 200hp, something around the 180hp mark could easily be achievable in a reliable drivable set up i think.

any ideas here

maybe a 1.8 with a 2.0 head? would this lower the comp? Prolly have to custom the manifolds, and don't know anything about the ecu; maybe run K-Jet or something mechanical?

Mate its all custom made by local machine shops... I spose u could get stuff from overseas but go local and get the rite stuff made... Cost just as much...

BTW my ol man keep blowing heads of ol skool 8v's so take it easy

well... the stock internals are rated fairly well. Pistons won't be necessary if you get a low compression ratio gasket, then you can run 200 hp at the wheels for no worries

Found a 2.8l 24v VR6 450hp kit the other day for 5000 grand... that wasn't bad lol!

Plenty of folk have done DIY turbo stuff on vwvortex.com have a look in the forced induction thread.

A couple of stacked G60 head gaskets is a pretty std way to decrease compression.

It's pretty cheap and easy to do it simply. 220-250hp with a T3 super60 without silly boost. More parts around than you can poke a stick at aswell

yeah exactly best place to start and to make a list of all the items you need. Low comp gaskets are cheap though 150 posted, thats not bad really....

Tuning would be the biggest pain though... But all car chips are flashable, just a matter of finding the right person with the right level of expertise.

k-jet is the worst idea for turbo charging do not do it

I spoke to a guy from malta who had a 1.8 8v mk2 turbo 250hp.

He said it was easy, most expensive thing was the custom piping and exhaust.

He had a stand alone management, DTA or something like that, a desel gasket to lower compression and was running a K04 turbo. Cant remember how much PSI. He said all together with full custom stainless steal exhaust it was 6000 euros.

Whats the budget? Seriously you come up with a figure and we'll spend it (theoretically). Just go 20v rather than pussy around on r&d
