Yeah I'm guessing this is the new RS3 sister car.
If they did bring it here I wonder if they'd call it the R300 (kW)

Had a test drive today, for reference I'm driving a Mk6 Golf R.
Good-
The increase in power is very noticeable, to be honest it feels like a lot more than ~20kw. Having (briefly) owned a CLA45 and driven an A45 it felt more like them than a Mk6 R.
The launch control is very very impressive. In the Mk6 it was a bit meh, this really felt quick and put a huge smile on my face.
The DSG seemed a tad smoother off the line, otherwise no different to the Mk6.
The steering was much nicer, I always found the steering in the Mk6 to be too heavy, the Mk7 has a much nicer weight to it. Turning circle seemed a little better (my Mk6 is the 19" version that can't do a u-turn on a football field).
The panoramic sunroof was nice, didn't intrude in the cabin or reduce head height at all.
The indifferent-
It's louder, this will be a personal preference. For me I don't need to be reminded I'm driving a fast car, and I don't need to make sure everyone on the footpath knows it too, so I'm not fussed about it being loud. It's a nice noise, not too intrusive (unlike the AMG 45's).
The styling will again be personal preference. I don't mind an understated car, again I don't need the styling to tell everyone I'm in a fast car, but it is a little bland.
Unlike WhiteJames I can't write a paragraph about a pothole, so all I will say, having driven my Mk6 R to and from the dealer, is the suspension felt exactly the same to me. I don't like too firm a ride, and I didn't feel the Mk7 was any firmer than the Mk6.
The Bad-
Oh my god that GPS screen is terrible. In this day of HD, Retina displays etc etc to put in such a rubbish screen is almost a deal breaker.
The gloss black console looks a bit tacky, I looked in a PP GTi and it had a lovely matt textured trim that looked so much nicer than the gloss in the R.
The GPS screen is terrible.
No electric seats? Really?
Did I mention the screen?
Hi all
I have been offered $62,000 driveaway for the R with all the options here in WA with our higher stamp duties and such ($1.5k more from my calculations). Is this a good deal?
I'm surprised that Sat Nav (which is included this time unlike the $2k option in the MK6) would be a deal breaker when the rest of the package/drive is so good. Best bet if it is so important is to then spend the extra 5-10k (10k if you want Performance pack) to get the S3. I found the overall experience of the R superior and like for like unbeatable value at 10K cheaper (this was after is negotiated hard and well on both) (also prefer VW service and support etc).
^ Topcat, ditto lol! We've waiting longer so we'll really appreciate it ;)
BTW, HPSOV, totally agree with your good points. I also think they got the engine noise spot on, nice rumble/growl without being intrusive, when your launch it, it sounds incredible :) I also found the drive/chassis smooth and stable, hunkered down on the road nicely, much smoother and better balanced than my mk6 GTI. Like the look (might change the wheels but they're certainly not boy racer/ricey so will see how that goes). Agree sat nav is a fail but as long as it works on the odd occasion that I use it then that will be fine). Overall, I think its an outstanding value proposition (and certainly has been received as such to date)
I wonder if the front radar option would reduce insurance premium.. basically it should significantly prevent front end collision.

Placed my order today for an R. I currently drive a Scirocco and I can tell you that the mk7 R is superior in so many ways. Im going to miss the scirocco, it looks great and it's a great car but the mk7 R is so much quicker and the handling is insane. The only issue I can pick so far is that folding mirrors and heated seats on the fabric seats are not standard and not even an option which is strange given that the scirocco has them and the euro mk7 R's have them too.
