Advice needed MK 7.5 GTI DSGgearbox swap

Hi Everyone, first of all :
I bought this beautiful Golf GTI MK 7.5 recently from the auction - repairable write off (600kms on the clock ), the front sustained damages to LHS front bumper , left hand side fender and a little bit of chassis damage where the fender bolts on and also gearbox ( metal covers & mechatronic unit ).

After taking the metal cover off , I discovered that the mechatronic unit was broken in pieces , also note that the car is stuck in gear !

I heard there is a to that can put the gears in neutral.

So should I really do the complete gearbox swap ?

Now i bought another GF GTI MK 7.5 stat write off from QLD 15,000kms on the clock (flood damage) for donor parts.
Body is 100% but heaps off electrical warnings in the dash.

Engine is 100% running & not affected and Gearbox warning comes on says faulty gearbox.

But after pulling the electrical connector , there is no sign of water damage , no moisture in connector.

Or maybe can get I just use the mechatronic unit for my another stat write off car?

Now I have some good knowledge in mechanical repairs like engine rebuild / gearbox swaps! When it comes to coding etc... I have got no clue how to do this .

I did a bit of research that I will need to get the mechatronic recoded ? Is there a way I can do this ? Is this really complex ? What software can I use on my laptop ? I have ELM 327 cable which I used to read DTc for some cars using a program called Proscan , I also have a CRP 123.

I know these are just basic scan tools to clear Error / fault codes .

Or maybe best to see a professional or VW dealer ?

I’m willing to learn howto and maybe get a professional Scan tool which is willing to do these task.

    Please help.

    Thanks

    Sam.

Suggest finding a confirmed working gearbox for starters. I’d only be using plastic parts off the water damaged one unless you like repairing things twice.

There is a seller on EBay tagged mpstransgo. From the UK they can provide new mechatronic unit that is coded to your VIN. OEM and brand new. They have 100% feedback score on EBay and sell other new units circa $1,500. I think that's an avenue I'd explore in this circumstance. I suspect they'd likely offer you some advice about the install too.
Another move I'd make is to buy an OBD Eleven Pro. Cheap and much better for the application than an ELM.
I'd be interested to hear how you go with your project no matter what path you take.

If one of the mechatronics is ok, assuming the same part numbers. Then ODIS can be used to fix the component protection.

I thought of this too about getting another mechatronic unit , but wanted to see if I can use the one on the donor car first .

Watched the OBD 11 on YouTube , superb ey!

If I get a professional scan tool then won’t be buying the eleven.

But great gadget to have .

Will be posting photos soon I start working on it . Weather here in Perth is a bit crappy at the moment , raining any other day .

Thanks mate , Is there a way to read the part numbers without taking the cover ?

If that’s the case , I can do a straight swap of the gearbox !

Also what is ODIS ? ( sorry I’m still learning all the tech side )

Both cars were built around the same month:

    Repairable GTi : 02/18
    Donor Car : 05/18
