How many km is too many for a Mk 7 Golf

Looking at getting the following car:

2014 Golf 90TSI
Manual
130,000km (about two thirds is highway driving)
$11,000 (may be able to negotiate a bit)

Is that too many km for that car? Lower km ones are a bit out of budget but I'm trying to toss up if it is worth waiting to try and find one or not.

Given it's a manual and provided its looked after it's probably ok - to rack up those miles would involve presumably involve a lot of highway work which is a car's friend.

Having said that, I'd have thought $11k is for something with less mileage than that, there should be some decent wiggle room otherwise might be worth waiting.

$11k easily gets a lower mileage example of a Mk6, seems to be quite tricky with a Mk 7.

I think I can negotiate a bit, but not a lot really.

It has been mostly highway km which is why I haven't just walked away.

It's not a Comfortline unfortunately but it ticks all the other boxes so seems OK.

Fair call, seems to be some ambitious sellers out there right now.. although being able to lop 70km off for $2k or less may be worthwhile. I guess it all depends on how tight your budget is, how long you intend on holding the car and your own mileage, and whether a Mk6 might be worth looking at.

Had to chuckle at one advert - FIRE SALE!!! AT THIS PRICE NO ROADY WILL BE SUPPLIED! This is a great car. We just need to sell and no one appears to be buying at the moment.

Indeed, the prices sellers are asking seem to be higher on the whole than what the "book value" is, but in my experience the book value is usually quite generous.
However that does surprise me in some ways as in my experience it is more of a buyers than seller's market, with most cars at least.

The other factor in my case is that I am searching specifically for a manual vehicle, there would be a little bit more choice if I were to include auto/DSG models but that's not going to happen!

The resale value as you point out is of course a factor, I suppose in this case it would be necessary to either sell the car after only a year or two while the km are still somewhat reasonable, or keep it until 250-300k when it won't have as much value anyway.

However it is a nice car and the seller has been honest so I'm fairly confident it wouldn't be a regretful purchase.

Hey 846. Probably a bit off topic.. but....
Our Mk VI 2.0 Tdi Comfortline with 180,000 km is catching trade-in quotes of $4K (against a new 110TSI Wagon) and $5K (against an MY2015 TDI Wagon). Our Mk VI is still on its original front brake pads so this is a seriously well looked-after car!
