    E10 in 7.5 Golf R

    Hi Guys

I just got a dreaded text from my wife. "I just put half a tank in your car, E10 like you like"

Obviously the car is recommended 98/5 and has only ever been filled with 98. How likely is this to cause an issue? Would it be better to fill the rest with 98 increasing the octane? or use the E10 to get the ethanol out of the tank quicker and then fill with 98?

    Thanks guys.

Just checked the 7/11 website, Mobil fuels (I always fill up with Shell/BP/Caltex). Their E10 is 94ron rather than 91. So mixed with half a tank of 98 in theory makes it 96ron, so octane shouldn't be an issue.

    Hopefully the ethanol is ok.

Should be fine, the ecu will detect the fuel and assist timing.

Probably wouldn't drive it too hard until a few tanks have run dry

Fill it up with 95 or 98 and keep it topped up to dilute the E10 When I asked VW if 91 0r E10 was suitable this id the reply

Volkswagen only recommend the use of 98 or 95 as minimum. We do not recommend any other type of fuel to be used, including E10.

Wouldn't use anything but 98 ever. Unless caught in BF Nowhere.

Significant power loss even going to 95, yeah the ECU can detect the knock and adjust timing accordingly. But it's a 50k car, why cheap out on the fuel? I don't even do that in my 2006 Polo GTI.

Nearly 20kw at the wheels on our dyno. We can tell cheap fuel from the numbers, without even logging.

i have saved emails from VW customer care.. as long as it is RON95 or higher (whether it is E10 or not) then it is fine to use. They dont seem to care that E10 RON95 unleaded has a lower MON rating than PULP95... Just use 98 and be done with it...

Well that post is a direct quote from what VW sent to me when I asked them if E10 was acceptable so you put what you like in your car and I will stay with real petrol as they say

Well, I have emails from VW too .... and it says .... use 98 at all times and only use 95 in an emergency.

BTW, not all 98s are equal too, best to use BP as your 1st choice, followed by Caltex/Shell and then the rest.
