    Aircon Fan and Regulator

Hi, my Golf 90TSI aircon fan started making a funny noise and has now stopped working altogether. Took it to local VW garage and they said that the 'Regulator', 'Fan' and 'Pollen Filter' need replacing which will be $1295 including 2hrs labour. They have given me the parts numbers and I can get from LLLParts in Dubai for $481 delivered (as opposed to $880 here). Is it worth trying to fix these myself, anyone done it? hard or easy? am reasonably good at fixing things.... Also, any idea on local suppliers or VW specialists in Perth that might be cheaper (local VW garage dont have parts in country anyway)..

    Thx
    Tony

Tony, Things are not always as they seem as I found out recently when the fan on my MK 6 Golf stopped. It was due to a dysfunctional valve in the compressor causing things to freeze up and stop working. Not saying that this is the same for you, but try -as I did- to find a small and reputable A/C person to check it out first. These VW guys are good with mech and tech but generally replace every component in an A/C until they luck on the right one. Google local specialists and not a big franchised one as they will do the same as VW dealers. Cheers-John

Thanks John, I took the current fan and resistor out to check the part numbers and while it was out got it running only for it to stop again after a few minutes of driving around. So somethings def afoot with one of those 2 components. have ordered new ones from LLLParts in the UK for 312 euros delivered which is half the price of the parts alone that VW wanted...

PS I watched lots of vids on removing the fan. All of them said there was just a 'tab' holding it in... pppffffttt not on your life... several T15 screws and tabs (some hidden)... lol
