    AFS Retrofit

    Hi there,

I've been working on this for the last three days, I finally managed to install the last wires and the AFS module but still couldn’t find the origin of the errors in the BCM (one) and two for the Headlight Range (one related to the basic setting and another error). I tried to perform the basic setting for the headlight but it didn’t allow me (gave me error).
    Any Ideas anyone?

    Cheers,

    Guto.

    The errors:

Guto: I've no doubt that you have ALL the data in your head - but I need more information to understand your part-auto scan.

What precisely is the project - was the car originally factory fitted with halogen headlight? If so, how was the wiring loom changed? If not - please explain using more words (what headlight fittings?)!!

Also, your BCM is the newer type that doesn't have an active long-code string. So we know nothing about how it's coded. Do you have a BCM adaptation channel map - so we can see how the module is programmed?

    Don

    Hi Don,

Sorry, I should be more specific. The car came originally with halogen headlights. I needed to upgrade the following: BCM, gateway, headlights (with slave modules for the AFS, as it came from a R with the mentioned feature), new height sensor, new harness from Kufatec (for the headlights, height sensor, AFS module and connection to the gateway).

I think I coded everything correctly as the headlights are fully functional. I still have some weird indicators behaviour (they work but the indicator in the cluster flashed and beeps rapidly as it had a blow bulb somewhere, strangely when I turn the hazard lights on the indicators behavers properly, try to understand that…).

I post the last scanner and the admaps for the bcm and headlight range control in the ross-tech site:
    Golf MK7 AFS Retrofit | Ross-Tech Forums

I would really appreciate for opinions of what I may be missing, as I been battling with that for the last few days.

    Thank heaps!

Why did you choose this setting?
    ENG141650-ENG141973-Fernlicht_assistent-Erweiterte_Fernlichtsteuerung AFS: Fernlicht ueber AFS

How the channel is set depends on the capabilities of the retrofit headlights - do the R headlights have DLA, or just HBA?

Why did you choose these settings (why is one "present" and the other "not installed")?
    ENG141650-ENG116637-Fernlicht_assistent-Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent not installed
    ENG141650-ENG116641-Fernlicht_assistent-Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent Werkseinstellung present.

    For hex55 module
    Why the long-code string 029602000B000200?
What happens when you try the Basic Setting procedure?

I haven't change none of these settings, they were there from the original BCM's car (GTI MK7,5, should I turn them off or disable?). Regarding to the headlights donor car I imagined that only has HBA, but my car doesn’t have any type of camera, so none of those two will work anyway. I just want to sorted the AFS.

Regarding to the basic setting I start to do the procedure and it come with this following error message: “Error: Conditions not correct or request sequence error”

    Thanks,

    Guto.

hmm....... again, not knowing the PR numbers for the original donor car that provided the headlights - it's a bit of a guess.

But I agree, not having any form of HBA is a better assumption - so maybe choose a setting that does NOT have "ueber AFS", or "FLA" in its name. Perhaps try

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the long-code helper screens for your hex55 module - so I can't confirm the long-code string values. Again, how did you choose the values?

Since you have a HEX-V2, you should be able to access the "Yellow" long helper screens - I suggest that you confirm that the software switches in each Byte/Bit seem reasonable.

    Hey Don,

I just found out that the height sensor stopped to work, I already ordered another one and it will be arriving next week. If I disabled the sensor in the BCM do you thing I’ll be able to bypass or it’s a pre-requisite to the AFS?

The hex55 is used one and I went through the long code and it looks reasonable. The only thing I changed was the option related to the 4motion to front traction and multilink rear axle.

Any clue what these errors may be?

    Thanks.

    BTW,

I just found this in a retrofit guide but I cannot long code my BCM, any chance you know what adaptation channel is this?

"In Byte 2 of the BCM I chose the option “03 Lighting: Bi-Xenon Headlights with Light Assist (PR-8IG/8IP+8G1)” as I wanted to install also the High Beam Assistant (FLA). If you do don’t want to install FLA mirror or DLA then choose “02 Lighting: Bi-Xenon Headlights w/o Light Assist (PR-8IG/8IP+8G0)”

Guto: I'm reading your same questions in the Ross-Tech forum - probably better to have this dialogue in one spot only (so that we aren't contradicting one another).

As said previously - you are probably better off getting the AFS system working properly as a first priority. Plus FLA needs a front camera and your car doesn't have this.

Anyhow, with respect to your "retrofit guide", the options for BCM Byte 02, Bits 0-2 are:

    • No Function=hex00
    • Basic_FLA=hex01
    • AFS,BCM-Highbeam=hex02
    • AFS,FLA,BCM-Highbeam=hex03
    • AFS,Highbeam+ueber AFS=hex04
    • AFS, FLA Highbeam+ueber AFS=hex05
    • AFS,FLA_High_beam(GLW,MDF)= hex06

On BCMs without an active long-code string, these Bits translate to channel ENG141973. Your coding for ENG141973 on your admap was hex04 - I suggest something like hex02 initially (because no camera) so that it doesn't complicate stuff

    OK,

after digging around for while I stumble upon a thread (from other site) from a user that been having the same errors when he replaced the BMC with one from a GTI MK7,5. He head the AFS communication error (due the missing 4b module) and the blinkers working properly but with the cluster indicators behaving weirdly.

The missing errors for 4b came from the new BCM trying to communicate with the old not present 4b module (as part of the AFS wiring is controlled by the BCM and the 4b). to get rid of the errors I had to change the following adaptation channel:

    ENG141656-ENG142034-Außenlicht_uebergreifend-Light_Control_Module, installed >not installed

The blinkers were a little bit more complicated, it was more try and error (from the mentioned thread)

I changed the following channel but the errors persisted:

    ENG141656-ENG142185-Außenlicht_uebergreifend-LCM_blinker,true

Then after more digging I found that my old BCM didn’t have the following adaptation channel:

    ENG116588-ENG116589-Sonderfunktionen-Signalprioritaet fuer Blinker,MFG

I changed to SMLS and the blinkers errors went away.

So far is everything working fine and no errors in my scan in so long time!!!
