    Embedded Software Programmer

    Hi

    Anyone here know anyone who would be able to modify embedded computer code on a VW, for instance?

    Thanks

    Pretty broad question...there are dozens of modules in a car each running hundreds to 10s of thousands of lines of code.
    Want to be a bit more specific?

    I am after a professional programmer not a hobbyist, per se, so it should not matter which module however, it's the cruise control so an OEM, not VW, component, I presume.

    The original code on the OEM modules, be that Bosch, TRW, Hella, etc will be under NDA with the staff that wrote it.
    The professional groups that make ECU tunes put many hours into reverse-engineering the assembly code on ECUs, there is not much profit to be had from changing other modules software other than the ECU and TCU.

    Cruise control (regular or ACC) is controlled by the drivetrain co-ordinator which is in the ECU software.
    Then it will depend which ECU the car has (Bosch or Siemens/Continental).
    So you're likely looking at a specialized ECU tuner, but again depends what you're aiming to do...

    @Arnold: Hi

    With absolutely no offense intended, I support previous responses - the original question is really so broad as to be virtually unanswerable (other than the obvious reply "VW").

    Even with your later identification of Cruise Control (is this normal CC which is ECU based, or ACC which is more hexA5 module based?), the work done by third-party reverse-programmers is generally task specific - meaning that the difficult job of understanding proprietary VW software is usually focused on the part of the program that relates specifically to the commercial activity of the company!

    Or said another way - there ain't no commercial value in understanding the complete firmware package of these modules - only the bit of the program that relates to the work of the business is generally reversed-engineered!!

    But, I guess that it really depends on the amount of money that someone wants to throw at the problem! With enough available funds - almost anything is possible !!

    Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
