    Carista BT compatibility

I bought the Carista BT dongle for $49. It worked well enough to clear codes. But I am now faced with the choice of paying $79 a year. I have one month trial. I paid $14.99 for the OBD Fusion app. It seems to work checking codes, but there's no customisation. My question is: I'm pretty handy with computers - what's the minimum hardware (OBDII dongle) that will work with VCDS? The cheap USB ones on eBay - do they work? Does VCDS support Bluetooth at all? Are any of the Carista compatible apps worth buying? Seems that right now, if I customise my Golf with Carista, I'll need to pay to reset anything. So asking really what's the cheapest way into the customisations and more detailed alerts. Thanks for your time - it's much appreciated.

Thanks for those replies. Much appreciated. Have to see how the budget goes. I might pay the Carista since I've got it. They said they want a video of the mirror dip on my car and would give me credits. I wonder how many . . . .
