What's the Driveaway price on the GTI compared to the MC? Is it really an 8k diff?
Negotiated base manual Polo GTI is $27K DA and $29K DA with the Nav Pack ..... quicker than a Golf GTI and for that matter an Octavia RS(0-100 6.26s!) everywhere, lighter and nimbler too. For that money, nothing can touch it really.

To be competitive the Fabia really needs a new RS with the 1.8T manual combo .....

Bear in mind that both the Fabia and Polo will get all new models in 2017. The next 1 (prototypes are running around Europe already) will MQB based like the MK7, so all new platform.

Most Fabia or Polo purchasers are also price-conscious, as well

So really not much difference in price when you option up a Monte Carlo..... I know which I would buy. But our Fabia wasn't my purchase so I didn't have a huge say in it, even though I drive it 85% of the time

Looking at a 2nd car as a wagon, the Fabia Monte Carlo ...is it a decent sized car to through dog + camping gear into for the weekend, or more of a smaller sized wagon, bit like the old Subaru Impreza ones?

    Well, its both.
Its a small hatch with a silly amount of space; and also available in a small wagon with a ridiculous amount of space (especially considering exterior size!)

Whilst I like the look of the hatch, the wagon we have is infinitely more practical. The boot space is very usable, and the whole car is still very compact. I'd say it was a better space than the old Impreza Wagons IMHO
