    Coolen leak MY17

    Hi,

    Could you please help?

Do you have coolen leak issue between 60-75000 km?

My in law skoda octavia got similar issue.

Google said it is common in VW group car.

Got independant service european VW group to fix this and I need to replace coolen pump housing and they said including replacing thermostat. Because thermostat inside coolen house that need to be replace as well.

BUT Skoda dealer quote me a separate cost for coolen pump and thermostat. It doesn't mean to replace both of them.

So I am not sure which one is correct.

What did you do if you have coolen leak? what did the dealer/service fix?

Please let me know your feedback.

Thermostat is not an expensive part maybe $40, but the labour cost to replace is the same as water pump.
If the thermostat fails in 1 year you would need to pay the labour cost again, or do it now and be sure it it good for many years.

When replacing the timing belts it is usual practice to replace the water pump, thermostat, tensioners etc all at the same time, it is good insurance as all these parts are cheap to buy but expensive to fit.

hm...thermostat change in dealer part and labour it has number 4 as well BUT $1447.40
    Water pump $1000
    Warranty 2 yrs

Independent said both thermostat and water pump replace at the same time cost $1250 parts and labour.

Hence I am confused which one to believe.
I tried the independent one but OEM part warranty 1 yr so I am hopping it last longer.

Since it is a common issue why there is no recall for this?

We do water pumps and thermostats on mk7 rs and S3 all the time. It's over a grand easily.
Unfortunately no longer a 40 dollar part.

Because things wear out but a timing belt kit and water pump should be about $1300 plus the thermostat

ŠKODA vehicles sold after 1 January 2017 are covered with a 5yr / Unlimited Kms warranty...

Do you fit into this category? If so, follow up with ŠKODA.

If not, I am unsure of what direction you should take (as in all honesty your thread is hard to follow in parts)...

Unfortunately, mine or in law octavia does not have 5 yrs warranty.

If this common to happen then I thought Skoda should put this as part of the recall.
So I'm not sure whether or not anyone had similar issue in the past.
What did they replace or fix?

I would like to know if any one know about the mechanical site.
Is the thermostat as part of the water pump house or not when we replace the water pump?

Since dealer said if thermostat faulty then replace thermostat only.
If water pump faulty then replace water pump only.

Independent service said will replace both at the same time. Unless I misunderstood them.

Will update you next week when i get it repair.

    Thank you all.

I was lucky enough to have that same issue fixed, at cost to VW Australia, for a 6C Polo GTI at 60,000kms. That car at the time was no longer under warranty.

The dealer should be a big supporter to chase this up and push hard with Skoda Australia.

Unfortunately dealer do not offer or cover this under warranty.

So replace the whole cooler pump for $1250 including engine clean or the affected oil area with outside dealer.

We'll see how long it will last.

    Thank you all
