Mine came with the same installed, agreed it feels short and tight. Click click click, can't shift quick enough!

Firstly, I want to thank Gavin (h100vw) for his help in performing the work we did. His friendship, technical knowledge and vast array of tools is so gratefully appreciated. He helps a lot of us on the forum...it is rare to find such a nice guy who is eager to help out.
Work undertaken: Replaced timing belt, replaced water pump, replaced front rotors, replaced front pads. All up about 5 hours work.
I decided to upgrade my rotors to a more "performance" orientated spec...DBA T2 was the rotor I choose. For Happy Laps and street use I thought they would be the best. Remsa pads for the extra grip. Very straight forward install...I'd say this took about an hour to do both sides.

With a bit of assistance from another forums DIY we changed the timing belt and water pump.

Old vs new pump...I was impressed with the design of the pump. Very brittle impeller.
Getting larger part of the engine mount off the engine and out of the way was the hardest bit. We employed Gav's large jack and the widow maker to lift the engine up then forward to remove it.

Needless to say, this is justified.
A very satisfying job and not too hard to perform.
A great day's work.
Also a big thumbs up for Gavin - met him last weekend for a spot of VAG-COMing and he's a great guy.
Finally lowered it on h&r's and took a photo!

Also with OZ Allegerittas
Over the last 3 days... Put a new headgasket on, new camshaft and lifters, timing belt, waterpump, bolted everything back together. Drove it.
Pic of the head off getting the new camshaft.
