Trunk Light Install - LED Strip

So the trunk light is woeful, seriously a single 5 watt bulb to light the whole trunk, what where they smoking ?

I purchased some cheap ebay LED strips for another project and had some extra.
I have used a 50cm strip. 36 x 7020 SMD LED, 9 watts. You could use a lot lower spec strip and still get good results.

The strip light I have required some assembly.

The wire was only 10cm long so I soldered on a longer wire about 90cm, I used some speaker wire I had lying around.

Then I marked the polarity on the wires.

Added some double sided tape to the back of the light.

Mount the light in the boot. I chose to put it up high on the metal cross member section.

Route the wire behind the boot lining and around to the existing ****ty light.

    Now to hook it up.
Remove the existing light, it just pulls out.
    Remove the electrical connector.
There are probably heaps of better ways of doing this. Splicing / cutting & soldering / new connectors etc.
I choose to simply strip back and expose a small amount of wire and push into the connector. Then tape it all up.
The brown wire with black stripe is the earth BTW.

The light seriously shines out your trunk now.
Total time was about 20 min including the soldering.

    Simple but very effective mod!

Any consequences of using 9W when the bulb is 5W?

Tempted to do this, but don't want to blow fuses or trigger an error light like what happens if you don't use an error-free led bulb for the number plate lights.

From what I recall, the only bulbs that need to be ' error-free ' INSIDE the car, are the foot-well lights. The boot light should be fine with any type of bulb, regardless of being error-free or not. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

Either way it's less than 1 amp so unlikely to blow any fuses
