Treadlife with my CSC2s seems premature

Just want some advise on CSC2 tyre wear. I reckon they're decent tyres (noisy though) and I know different vehicles will get different life out of a set of tyres. Just wanted some thoughts on whether my use vs my wear is reasonable, as it has sure surprised me a bit. Perhaps I'm just a bit unlucky?

At the 15K service tyres recorded as front 3mm remaining; rears 5mm remaining. Believe the spec for the CSC2s is full tread 8.7mm & wear indicators at 1.6mm. Got them to do a wheel alignment in addition to the standard rotation (fronts now on back, vice-versa).

Whatever the specs may be, it is very obvious two tyres will need to be replaced before 30K & the other two at around the 30K mark. Wear appears even aside from front & rear differences.

I drive 80% highways, mostly on course chip bituamen & it's driven as a family sedan (no "funny business" & not pushed hard as such).

I guess that given the tyres are wearing evenly, nothing would be wrong with the car would it? That's my real only concern pretty much.

I know VW tested tyres in Iceland on the mkvi to try to improve course chip wear and noise levels. This would make me think the factory fitted ones may be a compomise.
For what its worth I got just over 30k out of the Dunlops on my R32 and I rotate front to rear every 7/10k.

What tyre pressure are you running?

I got just over 35,000 from the front tyres (standard Continentals) on my TDI Jetta. The rears still had more than half their tread. I replaced the front ones (Continentals) and hope to get another 30,000 km plus before I replace all four.

I tend to get reasonable tyre life as I never have the tyres rotated and check the pressure every week - 36 psi.

I have the conti's sport contact2 on my TDi Jetta which has done 22000kms, 85% of it Highway driving and my missus driving it and tread depth left is 6m front and 5m rear. Tyre's where rotated at 15000km and I run 40psi. The car has been flashed for the last 3000km so it has even more toque now and I do like to use it when I drive They are a great handling tyre but the tyre noise and life is not the best. I might try the Sport contact1 next time.

From new my conti's on the front had worn alarmingly at 12k ( lots of ESP off action ) and I rotated them. They hit illegal at 45k. Your tyres do seem to be wearing quite fast, as I gave mine a pretty hard time till 12k, settled down, left ESP on and still made near 50k.

This pretty much mirrors my experiences with the CCS2 on the GTI. 23,000kms ~50/50 highway/city and ~5mm of tread left. Looks like I'll get 40,000kms+ pretty easily. I tend to go with the traffic flow with the odd squirt.

TDiJetta09 - I've had CCS1s and they are just as noisy as the CCS2s.

Around 38, closer to 40. Keep them up a bit higher than recommended just with most of it "high speed". Which isn't really high speed compared to an autobarn or something.

Thanks for everyones replies. Obviously nothing sinister. Just seems I'm a bit unlucky for whatever reason. Everyone on here is always good for advice or just pitching in with their experience which is awesome.

TDiJetta09 - seems our Jetttas run in a similiar fashion. Your tyres have faired a bit better though. I'm am starting to think about replacement tyres. It's a pain as there's a perfectly good CSC2 spare in the boot but unfortunately the CSC2s are just too noisy. Grip is obviously more important than noise but I'm hoping for more of a compromise in the decibel area.

My CSC2's have lasted 60,000 k's (well three have, one was replaced due to a bulge). Then again, I only have 16's which may be a factor. They def need replacing now. This is going to be expensive (60,000 service incl dsg service and four tyres)
