is this only with a jetta though? or is the GTI meant to do this also?
A few things after the weekend
1. Does anyone else get pretty squeeky brakes on thier MkV? Especially when coming to a stop and more so on decent stops?
It doesnt seem to fall within 'normal' imo, but VW said its the compound of brake pads they use and is normal...Your thoughts
2. If my understanding is correct my left mirror is meant to dip when the car is in reverse (providing it it on 'yes' in my MFD). Mine doesnt do this but am yet to speak to VW about it...Any ideas?
Cheers

5dr TR GTI - Leather - Tints - 6 Speed - BOOST OOOOH YEAH!!!!
Mirror dip is only applicable if you have reverse sensors fitted from memory.
Brake squeal can be caused by several factors. I found this site which may give you some ideas on how to eliminate the problem. Try copying and pasting this link into you internet browser and have a read through -

Hope it helps !!

Thanks so far for feedback guys.
not sure if it applies to GTI aswell.
- I have reverse park sensors, so my mirror should dip i assume. Will be back to VW about this.
- Thanks for the link to brake noise issues. I had them cleaned and checked and am still getting the noise. When VW said it was normal i thought surely then other ppl would get it, hence the question. Seems 'dodgy' to have a brand new car with squeeling brakes.

Just a random guess here, but perhaps the mirror dips when the car is factory fitted with reverse sensors, but if the reverse sensors are dealer fitted the ECU would need updating and the dealer was too lazy or forgot?
You do need the reverse sensors to get mirror dipping on the GOLF. I have tried every combination of settings in VCDS and after doing more research it definitely requires the FACTORY reverse sensors.
All of those who fell for the bull**** from the dealers about them being able to fit the factory sensors will not have the ability to have dipping mirrors because the dealers charged you $790 to $890 for a $50 reverse sensor kit and fitting, these units don't integrate, look like crap as they stick out of the bumpers, often have ugly indication units attached around the place and don't offer the ability to be muted or change the volume of the beeping which the factory fitted ones will do.
If the sensors were not fitted at the factory and the dealer didn't charge you around $1800 (new rear bumper required for factory sensors) then you have a cheap crappy $50 unit.
It might pay you to experiment with some different brake pads in the future. My BA XR6 was the same even after changing rotors, pads, fitting new shims and anti rattle goo to the back of the pads, cleaning everything spotless, the only way to make the pads any more secure in the caliper would have been to weld the bloody things in, and guess what ???...... They still squealed on and off. I am pretty sure most of the problem is in the pad materials, the only problem is once you go to a softer pad you wear them out twice as quick and you end up with heaps of dustyou just can't win !!!

Nup they are factory fitted on the Jetta's, definitely standard on my TFSi (and all the other Jetta models from memory).
Will raise with the dealer next time im there....
my old mans MYO7 125kw TDI passat mirror definitly dips.
Its for when you are doing reverse parks you can see the gutter and keep your mags away from it
cheers for the feedback so far though guys
