MY06 GTI steering wheel radio station + track change controls not working

I have an 06 GTI with RCD300 HU + ipod connector in glovebox, and cannot change radio stations on the steering wheel.

    Problem description:

The up and down buttons on the right side of my steering wheel work, so I can cycle through stuff like fuel consumption, trip time, etc. The OK button to switch between 1 and 2 for fuel, trip, etc also works.

The menu button on the right side of the steering wheel controls doesn't work, so I can't access the radio menu or change radio stations and tracks.

The buttons on the left side of the steering wheel (volume up/down + mute) work without issues. No bluetooth phone kit installed so the phone button doesn't work.

Is there a way to get the menu button on the right side of the steering wheel to switch to radio so I can change stations & tracks from the steering wheel?

I'd be interested to know if there is a solution for this, but, and it is a Megane-sized but, I'm pretty sure that these options do not work on the pre-08 models unless you have a full height MFD which came with the factory sat nav (RNS510). I keep meaning to have a look at the VCDS options to confirm this, but it was like that on every GTi I test drove.

I'm hoping with both fingers crossed that it's just a case of something needing to be reset. It's a pretty big thing to me that something that simple wouldn't be included as a standard thing for all GTIs!

Would it be best to check with a dealer or something? Only thing is that I'm hesitant about taking it to a dealer because I bought it second hand so don't have a relationship with any dealer...

You can't do that on 06 gti's, all available steering wheel functions are covered in the user manual.

As already mentioned you cannot do this if you have a half size mfd (pre 08 ), the dealer won't help either, the functionality was never included from factory...

Thanks for all the responses even though it's not what I wanted to hear =(

Can it even be programmed via VAGCOM?

I know this is an old thread, but I just had this issue. I have partially fixed it.

It is in vag com. Under the steering wheel set up.

I changed the bits regarding 3/4 spoke steering wheel with cruise and voice. (Which I have) to a model.without cruise or on board ?

Now I can change tracks the only item still not working is the mute button.

I can set the button for voi e commands, but I'd rather have mute.

    Hope this helps someone......
